OVA
Description
Chifuyu Orimura is a central figure in the Infinite Stratos universe, serving as the homeroom teacher for Class 1-1 at the IS Academy and the dormitory supervisor for first-year students. At twenty-four years old, she is the older sister of the protagonist, Ichika Orimura, and has a younger sister named Madoka. Before becoming an educator, Chifuyu was a legendary IS pilot who represented Japan. She was the champion of the first Mondo Grosso world tournament, holding an undefeated record and earning the formidable nickname "Brunhilde," a title she personally dislikes.

In terms of appearance, Chifuyu is a tall young woman with long, black hair typically tied in a ponytail and sharp brown eyes. Her standard teaching attire consists of a formal white blouse, a black jacket and matching skirt, a green tie, black pantyhose, and high heels. For physical training sessions involving IS units, she changes into a white tracksuit. Her demeanor is one of absolute authority and confidence, a reflection of her storied past as the world's strongest pilot.

Chifuyu's personality is defined by a strict and often severe exterior, particularly in her professional capacity at the academy. She is known to be merciless with her students, not hesitating to administer physical punishment for infractions. Despite this harshness, she holds a deep, protective affection for her younger brother, Ichika. Having raised him on her own after their parents abandoned them, she considers him her only family. However, she usually conceals this care behind a stoic and demanding facade, insisting that Ichika address her as "Orimura-sensei" at school rather than "nee-san". Outside of work, Chifuyu shows a more relaxed and casual side, often drinking alcohol and displaying a dry sense of humor, which contrasts sharply with her image as the stern teacher.

A significant part of Chifuyu's motivation stems from her past and her relationship with Ichika. She retired from competitive IS piloting following an incident where Ichika was kidnapped, choosing to step away from a guaranteed second world championship title to ensure his safety. Her primary goal is now to protect her brother and prepare him for the dangers associated with piloting an IS. This is why she enrolled him in the academy, a decision she oversees with rigorous training and constant vigilance. She is also one of the few people who knows the secrets behind the Infinite Stratos, stemming from her childhood friendship with the machines' genius creator, Tabane Shinonono. While they share a long history, Chifuyu remains wary of Tabane's hidden and potentially dangerous motives.

Within the story, Chifuyu's role is that of an overseer and a living legend. She represents the pinnacle of IS piloting ability, and her presence commands instant respect from students and rivals alike. During the "World Purge" scenario, she continues to act as the homeroom teacher and the ultimate authority figure at the academy, guiding the students through various challenges and conflicts. She has key relationships with several characters, most notably with her colleague Maya Yamada, a fellow teacher with whom she shares a genuine friendship and more personal conversations. She also has a profound impact on Laura Bodewig, a German representative cadet whom Chifuyu personally instructed during her time as a trainer for the German military. Laura holds immense admiration for Chifuyu, viewing her as a role model.

Regarding her development, Chifuyu is a character whose complex nature is gradually revealed. The narrative peels back layers of her strict instructor persona to show a woman burdened by her past and fiercely dedicated to her brother. It is revealed that both Chifuyu and Ichika are the successful results of a secretive eugenics project known as the "Orimura Project" or "Project Mozaica," designed to create superior humans. This revelation adds depth to her protective instincts and her profound connection to Ichika.

Notably, Chifuyu's abilities are considered unmatched. She is officially recognized as the strongest IS pilot in history. Her combat prowess is such that she is capable of fighting against IS units without wearing one herself, demonstrating superhuman physical strength and swordsmanship skills. She famously used a traditional Japanese sword to parry an IS energy blade while in civilian clothes. Her personal IS units have included the legendary prototype "White Knight" and later the first-generation unit "Kurezakura" (also known as "Sakura at Twilight"), which possesses a special mode called "Nocturnal Nevada" that can disintegrate energy within its range. Even without her own operational IS, her sheer combat experience and technical knowledge place her far above almost all other pilots in the series.
