TV-Series
Description
Gennai Hoshimiya is a central figure whose actions set the stage for the story. Before the events of the series, he served as the Director of the Hoshimiya Agency, where he conducted research into converting human thoughts into energy. His most notable creation from this research was Daisy, a program designed to interact with human desires, grant wishes, and manifest supernatural abilities known as Orders. Ten years prior to the main narrative, Gennai orchestrated a catastrophic global event known as the Great Destruction, which caused immense devastation and loss of life. Though he was widely presumed to have died in this incident, he survived and later assumed the position of Vice-Director within the UN Department of Public Safety, using this influential role to advance his own agenda and gather followers.
Gennai is a deeply strategic and analytical individual, driven by a vision of achieving universal harmony and bliss for all of humanity. His primary motivation is to open a Gate to another dimension, which he believes will fulfill every human wish and create a perfected world. This goal defines his personality, making him emotionally detached and willing to exploit anyone, including his own family, as tools for his experiment. He sees his son, Eiji Hoshimiya, and stepdaughter, Sena Hoshimiya, as instrumental to his plans, viewing them as means to an end rather than as loved ones. Despite this utilitarian cruelty, there are rare moments that hint at a more complex emotional core, such as when he takes a bullet to shield Sena during a confrontation, though his ultimate loyalty always remained with his grand vision.
Within the story, Gennai acts as the hidden architect and primary antagonist. After framing his son for the Great Destruction, he manipulates events from the shadows. He aims to sacrifice Sena, who possesses a special Order, as the key to activate the Gate. His relationship with his son, Eiji, is adversarial; Eiji initially does not recognize Gennai as his father and directly opposes his plans. Gennai views Eiji as a crucial component of his experiments, attempting to use him to complete the Gate. His interactions with Sena are marked by exploitation of her emotional vulnerability and her abilities, often using his power to suppress her will. The entity Daisy, whom he created, refers to him as father and operates under his direct command.
Gennai possesses a powerful Order known as "Mind Set," which allows him to control the minds of any individual within a two-meter radius. Those under his influence exhibit a distinct star-like pupil in their right eye, and the control persists even after they leave his immediate proximity. He uses this ability for precise manipulation, such as forcing his daughter to comply with his demands during a public broadcast. His developed abilities as a scientist allowed him to create the Order system itself, making him the architect of the world's current power structure.
Gennai's development culminates in his plan to open the Gate in Heijōkyō, Nara. This leads to a final confrontation with Eiji and the Dazaifu Government Organization. During the conflict, he is shot while protecting Sena from an attack by Yoshitsune Hiiragi. In his final moments, Gennai expresses a degree of regret but maintains a desire to witness the outcome of his grand experiment, acknowledging his own folly before succumbing to his injuries.
