TV-Series
Description
Chidori Takashiro is one of the main characters in her story, a second-year student at Sugomori High School who becomes a participant in the Kizuna System experiment. She is of average height with a slim build, and is recognized by her crimson-red hair and matching red eyes. Her hair is almost always styled in a high ponytail, secured with a yellow scrunchie, with her bangs pinned back on the right side using a small yellow hair clip. Her assigned identification within the experiment is D-5, and she is associated with the sin of Envy, later updated to Goody-Two-Shoes. Her birthday is August 14th.
At her core, Chidori is an emotional, empathetic, and caring individual who often takes on the role of a caretaker for those around her. This manifests in practical ways, such as cooking meals for her friends, and in her strong protective instincts. She is particularly defensive of those she cares about, sometimes to the point of being perceived as nosy or overbearing. A significant aspect of her personality is her difficulty in controlling her emotions, especially those related to romance, which leads her to become flustered or embarrassed quite easily. Another character notes that her emotional nature can feel too heavy for others. When overcome with irritation or embarrassment, she has a tendency to physically lash out at the person who caused the feeling. Her tendency to insert herself into others problems to help, even at her own expense, leads another character to nickname her Two-Goody Shoes.
Chidori shares a long history with Katsuhira Agata, having been his best friend since preschool. She affectionately refers to him as Kacchon. Her primary motivation throughout the story is her deep, long-held, and ultimately unrequited romantic love for him. Her feelings are rooted in the memory of the kind and lively person he was before his emotional detachment. She desperately wishes for him to return to that former self and struggles to come to terms with his apathy and his growing connection to another girl. This unrequited love is the central driver of her personal conflicts. She is very protective of Katsuhira because she knows he will not stand up for himself, a fact that causes her great distress.
Within the group of Kiznaivers, Chidori forms several key relationships. Her relationship with Noriko Sonozaki is initially defined by jealousy, as Chidori sees that Noriko understands and connects with Katsuhira in a way she, despite being his childhood friend, cannot. Hajime Tenga is her classmate. While they start with little familiarity, she initially finds him shallow. However, they grow into good friends, with Tenga actively trying to help Chidori get closer to Katsuhira even as his own feelings for her develop. She is close with Nico Niiyama, who is often there to console her when she is sad. Chidori wants to befriend Honoka Maki, though Honoka is resistant to forming bonds. Her relationship with Tsuguhito Yuta is more distant, as he finds her emotionally heavy, though she has been shown to defend him and compliment his appearance.
Throughout the course of the experiment, Chidori undergoes significant development. She is forced to confront the painful reality that her feelings for Katsuhira will not be returned. Her initial jealousy and sense of having a claim on him because of their shared history eventually give way to a more mature understanding. She ultimately accepts that she cannot and should not force her emotions onto him, and that continuing to try would be selfish. While deeply hurt, she learns to let go of her one-sided attachment, demonstrating significant emotional growth. Observers note that she may begin to develop reciprocal feelings for Tenga, who has consistently supported her.
As a participant in the Kizuna System, Chidori is connected to six other individuals, sharing their physical pain and, as the experiment progresses, their emotional pain and even their unfiltered inner thoughts. Her identification within the system is D-5. When she experiences strong emotional pain, such as heartbreak or jealousy, it is transmitted to the other Kiznaivers, causing them to suffer as well. Her strong feelings, particularly her romantic jealousy, have a direct and powerful impact on the entire group, triggering cascading emotional reactions. Her abilities are not combat-oriented but are intrinsic to the experiment's function, making her a potent source of shared emotional experience.
