Description
Mutsumi Urushibara is a supporting character in the anime Kiznaiver. She serves as the school counselor at the high school attended by the main characters and is almost always seen wearing a white coat. She has short black hair that is swept to the right, blue eyes, and a beauty mark beneath her left eye.

In terms of background, Urushibara is a member of the Kizna Committee, the group overseeing the Kizna System experiment. She has worked alongside her colleague Kazunao Yamada for a very long time, and the two were low-ranking researchers on the initial Kiznaiver project together.

Her personality is initially presented as mysterious, cold, and somewhat sarcastic. In one early scene, she pulls out a gun in front of two students at an arcade, demonstrating a frightening and unpredictable side. As the series progresses, however, she reveals a more caring and motherly nature. She shows genuine concern for the emotional well-being of the Kiznaivers and eventually opposes continuing the experiment when she sees the emotional suffering it causes.

Urushibara's primary motivation is her deep care for Noriko Sonozaki. She has a mother-daughter-like relationship with Noriko, having looked after her since childhood. She refers to Noriko as Nori-chan and considers Noriko the only student precious to her. This bond drives many of her actions, including her willingness to protect Noriko and her growing reluctance to allow the experiment to proceed in a way that harms the participants.

Her role in the story is that of a behind-the-scenes operator and occasional moral counterbalance. She provides guidance and information to the main characters, and at critical moments she attempts to intervene when the experiment becomes too cruel. She also serves as a confidante to Noriko, offering emotional support.

Throughout the series, Urushibara undergoes notable development. She begins as a detached, clinical figure aligned with the experiment's goals, but her empathy for the Kiznaivers and her protective feelings toward Noriko lead her to question and eventually resist the more harmful aspects of the project. This shift from cold researcher to a more compassionate caretaker is a key part of her character arc.

Urushibara's notable abilities include her extensive knowledge of the Kizna System and her experience with psychological counseling. She is also willing to use physical force, as shown when she brandishes a gun, indicating she is not afraid to take drastic measures when she believes they are necessary.
