Description
Ikazuchi Saijo is a supporting character in the anime "Chivalry of a Failed Knight." He is a sixteen-year-old second-year student at Hagun Academy, where he holds the position of secretary for the student council. Prior to the events of the series, he was ranked as the fourth strongest student at the academy, making him one of the top C-Rank Blazers in the school.
In terms of personality, Saijo is depicted as a kind and wise individual with an old-fashioned and traditional mindset. He places a strong emphasis on strength and fair competition and has a deep respect for rules, preferring to do things in a classic and orderly manner. Despite his imposing physical appearance, which includes a bald head, a masculine face, and a very muscular build, his nature is not aggressive or cruel. He comes from a family with a lineage of doctors, a background that contrasts with his chosen path as a knight.
Saijo's role in the story is primarily as a supporting member of the Hagun Academy student council. He serves under the student council president and interacts frequently with other council members such as Utakata Misogi, Renren Tomaru, and Kanata Totokubara. His most notable appearance in a combat role occurs during the Selection Battles, where he is pitted against the powerful princess-cadet, Stella Vermillion. In this match, Saijo uses his full strength but is ultimately overwhelmed and defeated by Stella's superior abilities, being sent flying from the arena. Following his defeat, he maintains his position on the student council and later appears as a supporter for the protagonist, Ikki Kurogane, during his matches, including the significant battle against Touka Toudou. His development is subtle, as he remains a steady and loyal figure within the academy, helping to face external threats like the students from Akatsuki Academy during the Seven Stars Sword Art Festival arc.
Saijo's abilities as a Blazer are defined by a specific and powerful combat style. He is officially ranked as a C-Rank Blazer, with his statistical ratings showing a significant imbalance: his attack power is rated A, but his defense and magical energy capacity are rated D, and his magic control is rated E. To compensate for his low magical abilities, his power focuses on enhancing his physical attacks. His Device is a massive horse-cutting sword known as a zanbatou, which requires immense physical strength to wield effectively. Saijo possesses a fitting level of superhuman strength, allowing him to handle this heavy weapon with ease.
His signature technique is a Noble Art called Crescendo Axe. This ability allows him to accumulate the power and weight of his slashes with each successive swing of his zanbatou. As he continues his attack, each subsequent strike becomes heavier and more destructive. At its peak, the slashing power of Crescendo Axe can reach several tons, making it a devastating offensive move. He also possesses a more powerful variation of this technique known as Forzato Smash. For this move, Saijo swings his entire body along with his zanbatou to accumulate ten times the weight of his standard Crescendo Axe, creating a tornado of air pressure that can launch multiple opponents and break their bones.
