Description
Pham Thi Lan is a second-generation Vietnamese immigrant born in Lichtenberg, a suburb of East Berlin. She is the eldest of five siblings, being ten years older than the next child in the family. Growing up in wartime Berlin as a person of Vietnamese descent, she experienced discrimination, and she believed her father trained her strictly in martial arts from childhood to help her face that hostility. Her father is described as a martial arts master, and Pham inherited his skill, becoming a capable close-quarters combat specialist herself.

Within the 666th TSF Squadron Schwarzesmarken, Pham serves as the second in command, holding the call sign Schwarzesmarken 02. When the squadron splits its formation, she normally takes charge of the second group. Her personality is calm and composed, and she is known for her empathetic and good-natured manner, which leads the rest of the unit to regard her as a big sister figure and as something of the squadron's good soul. On the battlefield, that calm demeanor transforms into cool, precise decision-making, and she tends to give the most accurate and appropriate commands under fire. As a member of a special-response squadron dedicated to hunting Laser-class BETA through unconventional tactics, her role is central to the unit's combat effectiveness, both as a reliable deputy leader and as a steadying presence for her comrades.

Her motivations are rooted in her role within the squadron and her care for those around her, and she carries the weight of her immigrant upbringing and family responsibilities into her military service. In the course of the story, Pham is arrested along with the other members of the 666th squadron. Later, she fires an RPG at Lise Hohenstein's TSF and is killed by Lise in response. Her key relationships are defined by her position as the trusted second in command to the squadron leader and her warm bond with the rest of the unit, while her final confrontation with Lise Hohenstein marks the end of her story arc. Her notable abilities include her martial arts background, her close-quarters combat proficiency, and her calm, precise tactical command on the battlefield.
