Description
Masato Kageura is a young man of eighteen who serves as a B-rank Attacker and the captain of Kageura Squad within Border’s defense organization, having previously held an A-rank position. He has a lanky build, light skin, and wild black hair, and his amber eyes are notable for their slit-shaped pupils. He typically wears a dust mask over his lower face, a dark sweater, and jeans. His personal combat style is built around the Kogetsu trigger, and he is ranked twentieth in solo battles. Kageura possesses a rare side effect that allows him to perceive the emotions of those around him and also to sense incoming attacks, making him extremely difficult to catch off guard. This ability, combined with his natural reflexes and instincts, largely negates the advantage of being outnumbered.
His outward demeanor is often aggressive and confrontational. He is quick to lash out at anyone he perceives as speaking ill of him, and his reputation for intimidating others precedes him. However, beneath this belligerent exterior lies a more complex personality. He genuinely wishes to connect with people, but his intimidating appearance and his side effect—which constantly feeds him the feelings of others—make it difficult for him to trust or be trusted easily. As a result, he has only a small circle of close acquaintances. Among them is Kō Murakami, with whom he frequently spars and socializes at his family’s restaurant, which he reserves for his most trusted friends. Kageura is fiercely loyal to those he considers allies and is a determined protector of his squad.
As the captain of Kageura Squad, he leads a group that consistently maintains a high position in the B-rank wars, a testament to the combat strength of each member despite Kageura’s own relatively hands-off leadership style. He is a formidable opponent in battle, known for his confidence, quick analysis of an enemy’s weaknesses, and ability to adapt his fighting approach on the fly. Over the course of the story, his character is explored in greater depth, revealing the internal conflict between his desire for closeness and the walls created by his side effect and his own aggressive instincts. His journey involves learning to navigate these tensions while continuing to grow as a fighter and a captain.
