Description
Aguri Yukimura is the former homeroom teacher of Kunugigaoka Junior High School's Class 3-E, a position she held for one month in the second school year before mysteriously disappearing when the students advanced to their third year. In reality, she passed away at the age of 25 due to an accident at the research laboratory where she was working at night. She is the older sister of Akari Yukimura, who later enrolls in Class 3-E under the name Kaede Kayano.

Physically, Aguri has short black hair and brown eyes, with a fair-skinned and petite frame that contrasts with her younger sister's appearance. She is known for her highly unusual fashion sense, frequently wearing bizarre patterned shirts featuring bones, Chinese characters, and other strange designs, typically paired with a white lab coat. Her clothing choices often leave her students and even the being who would become Koro-sensei completely dumbfounded upon first meeting her. Despite her eccentric taste, her aesthetic sense extends to finding the transformed, octopus-like form of Koro-sensei more attractive than his human appearance.

Her personality is defined by remarkable kindness, gentleness, and a cheerful disposition that made her deeply beloved by her students during her brief time as their teacher. She treats everyone with equal respect, regardless of their status or appearance, and possesses an inclusive, compassionate heart that allows her to see beyond surface-level differences. As an educator, she is passionate, clear-minded, and highly intelligent, capable of teaching any subject despite chemistry being her primary specialization. She demonstrates genuine empathy and perceptiveness, as shown when she correctly interprets the motivations behind the original Reaper's apprentice betrayal, suggesting that the apprentice simply wanted his master to see him. Her dedication to her students extends beyond the classroom, as evidenced by her visiting Karma Akabane at his home during his suspension.

Aguri comes from a family that runs a pharmaceutical company and graduated from a prestigious university with excellent grades. Due to family debts, she became engaged through an arranged political marriage to researcher Kotaro Yanagisawa, though she admits she could never bring herself to love him despite admiring his skills and intelligence. Yanagisawa views her merely as an obedient, competent servant who would cause no trouble if she died, frequently subjecting her to verbal and physical abuse. Her daily schedule was grueling, working as a teacher from early morning until evening, then serving as a researcher and night monitor at a secret facility from evening until late at night, leaving her with little time for rest.

Her role in the story's backstory is absolutely central. When the master assassin known as the Reaper, still human at that time, was captured and brought to the laboratory as a test subject, no other lab assistant was willing to approach the infamous killer. Aguri was assigned as his caretaker precisely because she was considered expendable. Unlike everyone else, she showed no fear toward him despite his terrifying reputation and his transformation due to human experimentation. Initially, the Reaper planned to use her as a means of escape, but as the months passed, the two formed a genuine connection. She shared her troubles with him, kept him company, and through her gentle influence, the assassin learned how to connect with another person for the first time in his life. Their relationship developed into a quiet romance, and she gave him a black necktie as a keepsake.

After a laboratory mouse implanted with the same tentacle cells caused an explosion that destroyed much of the moon, Yanagisawa learned that the Reaper would cause a similar catastrophe within a year and prepared to eliminate him. When the Reaper discovered this, he used his emerging powers to escape and began destroying the facility. Aguri desperately tried to stop his rampage, but she was caught in the blast of a tentacle mine that Yanagisawa had set specifically to kill the tentacle-based creature. Suffering fatal wounds, she used her last moments to embrace the assassin from behind and made a final request. She asked him not to become a killing machine, but instead to become a teacher, to take her place guiding the students of Class 3-E, and to never let them go. Her final words were that he would be a wonderful teacher, and then she died in his arms. This moment was the first time she was truly able to touch him.

The impact of Aguri's death shapes the entire narrative. The transformed assassin, who becomes known as Koro-sensei, adopts her dying wish as his life's purpose, taking her black necktie and adding a moon embroidery to it as he assumes the role of Class 3-E's teacher. Her younger sister Akari witnesses his departure from the laboratory and mistakenly believes he killed Aguri, leading her to implant herself with tentacles and enroll in the class under a false identity seeking revenge. The students of Class 3-E remember Aguri with tremendous fondness as a kind, cheerful woman who truly loved teaching, always acknowledged her students, and worked tirelessly to encourage them despite the challenging circumstances of being assigned to the disadvantaged E class. The school chairman holds her in high regard, believing that given a few more years, she would have become a truly great teacher. Her legacy lives on through every lesson Koro-sensei teaches and every student whose confidence he helps restore, making her the hidden heart around which the entire story revolves.
