TV-Series
Description
Haruhiko Yoshino is a classmate of protagonist Kotarou Tennouji and Kotori Kanbe at the high school in the city of Kazamatsuri. Standing at 179 cm, he is a tall young man with short gray hair and blue eyes, typically wearing his school uniform with the jacket left open over a black shirt. Yoshino is a self-styled outlaw who proudly calls himself the "mad dog," yet his delinquent persona is more performance than reality. He adheres to basic rules, never smoking or drinking, and he fulfills his school duties properly, a contrast that makes his rebellious claims somewhat ironic.

Yoshino possesses a deeply ingrained middle-schooler syndrome, which manifests in his love for dramatic, outlandish speech and an elaborate personal mythology. He has invented countless named techniques for his actions, though most of them are simply ordinary punches with grandiose titles. Despite his tough exterior, Yoshino is a kind-hearted individual with a strong sense of justice. Several years before the main story, he single-handedly cleansed a lawless slum area in Kazamatsuri, earning him the respect of its inhabitants who call him the Wolf King or simply King. This action reveals the caring nature beneath his gruff demeanor.

His primary motivation in daily life is his self-declared rivalry with Kotarou. From the moment he first saw a quiet strength in Kotarou, he set him as his target and is constantly, and often loudly, challenging him to a duel. However, his feelings are more complex than simple antagonism. On one hand, he harbors a secret crush on their mutual friend, Kotori Kanbe, and wants to prove his superiority in front of her. On the other, his rivalry is rooted in a deep, unspoken respect for Kotarou's strength of character. Kotarou, for his part, finds Yoshino's antics amusing and treats him as a close friend, much to Yoshino's performative displeasure. In the Moon route, as they face a desperate final battle, the two finally acknowledge each other by their first names, solidifying their bond. The Terra route reveals the origin of their connection, showing a young Kotarou rescuing a boy named Haruhiko from bullies, an act that inspired Yoshino to pursue his path in the first place.

Yoshino's key relationships extend beyond Kotarou. His connection to Kotori reveals a softer side, and he becomes enraged when he believes Kotarou is callously ignoring her disappearance. He also has surprising ties to other heroines: he was classmates with Lucia Konohana in elementary school, and he displays an uncharacteristic meekness around Shizuru Nakatsu and complete subservience to the intimidating Akane Senri. He lives at home with his mother, to whom he is deeply devoted, even being teased for such obvious mother-complex behavior. His household also includes an older brother he dislikes for having become a conventional salaryman and several younger siblings.

Within the story's various routes, Yoshino serves as a steadfast if unconventional ally. In Kotori's route, he fights Kotarou to snap him out of his emotional stupor and later helps the pair escape. In Chihaya's route, he bravely crashes a truck into a burning gymnasium to save trapped students. During the Moon route, he leads his gang, the Wolf Pack, into battle against supernatural creatures, fulfilling the role of a scout and fighter until his last moments. In the world of the Harvest Festa! bonus content, his self-styled persona is pushed to its logical extreme, where a manifestation of his ideal self, "Mirakuru Kagari" Yoshino, appears as an overwhelmingly powerful secret boss.

Despite being an ordinary human in a world of superpowers, Yoshino is a remarkably capable fighter. His skills are so highly regarded that Kotori once used him as an informal unit of measurement, casually describing a creature's power as being worth "three Yoshinos," while its maximum output was "one hundred Yoshinos." This has led to "Yoshino" becoming a fan-recognized metric for power levels within the series. His true strength lies not in supernatural abilities, but in his unwavering spirit, fierce loyalty, and a will to fight that makes him a reliable friend and a memorable comedic foil.
