Description
Higan is a notable character who serves as the strongest and most trusted subordinate of the vampire Tsubaki, acting as his second-in-command. Physically, Higan is depicted as an older man, appearing to be in his late thirties to early forties. He has long crimson red hair, which he typically wears in a low ponytail, and red eyes, a trait common among vampires. His clothing style is distinctive and casual, consisting of a pink shirt, pants rolled up to just below his knees, sandals, and a black apron worn over his pants, complemented by brown gloves.

Higan’s personality is a blend of mature composure and laid-back demeanor. He often displays a sense of humor, making sarcastic comments and jokes even in serious situations. Despite this relaxed attitude, he is deeply loyal to Tsubaki and takes the orders he is given with the utmost seriousness. A peculiar and recurring trait is his forgetfulness, as he is frequently seen losing personal items such as his phone or lighter. He also has an affinity for haiku, sometimes speaking in this poetic form. Additional background information from supplementary materials notes that Higan is originally from Italy.

As Tsubaki’s number two, Higan's primary motivation is to serve his master faithfully. He is introduced as a formidable antagonist, first appearing to attack the vampire pair Licht Jekylland Todoroki and his Servamp, Lawless. In this initial encounter, he easily overpowers and kidnaps Licht, though he carelessly leaves his cellphone behind at the scene, which later becomes a key item found by the protagonist Mahiru Shirota. His role in the story is that of a major obstacle, demonstrating the threat level of Tsubaki’s faction.

The key relationship in Higan's life is unquestionably with Tsubaki, to whom he is utterly devoted. He also interacts with the other members of Tsubaki's group, being a fellow subclass alongside characters like Belkia and Shamrock. His primary adversarial relationships are with Licht and Lawless, against whom he engages in significant battles.

Higan experiences a degree of development through his combat encounters. After his initial success in kidnapping Licht, he later faces Licht and Lawless again. In this second battle, the duo manages to defeat him, and it initially appears that he is killed. However, Higan survives and demonstrates his unwavering loyalty by reappearing later to save Tsubaki from an attack by the organization C3, urging his master to flee to safety. This act solidifies his role as a guardian figure for Tsubaki, willing to sacrifice himself for the cause.

In terms of abilities, Higan is noted for his high combat prowess, which makes him the second strongest member of Tsubaki's group after Tsubaki himself. He possesses a special ability that allows him to manipulate flames. In his first fight with Licht, he demonstrates this power by ripping off some of Licht's skin and causing it to burst into flames. His combat style is also marked by an overconfidence that can prove to be a weakness, as he tends to underestimate his opponents, which ultimately leads to his defeat when Licht and Lawless fight with renewed determination.
