Description
The character referred to as Gluttony is a Servamp named World End, also known by the name Ildio. He is the sixth oldest among the eight Servamps and forms a contract with his Eve, Niccolo Carpediem, who is the boss of the Carpediem Mafia family. His history as a human is a tragic one, having once been a fighter in a popular arena located in the slums. As a human, he was kept in a cell and fed well because he was strong and always won his matches, which in turn meant he always had plenty to eat. Following one of his victories, he encountered a small, dark-haired girl who was hungry, and he shared his bread with her. She later returned to give him a flower, which he kept. His life was cut short during a match when he was fatally struck by an opponent wielding an axe. This happened because his attention was diverted by the sight of the same little girl being abused for stealing food. He was subsequently found and transformed into a Servamp by their creator, Count Saint Germain. On the day he awoke as a vampire, World End returned to the arena only to discover the girl's mutilated remains discarded like trash. This discovery caused him to snap and violently kill many people present, an event witnessed sorrowfully by the Servamp of Greed, Lawless.
World End's personality is largely defined by his sin. He is perpetually hungry and is often seen eating or stating that he is starving, sometimes crunching on ice cubes. He is also noted to have no money. He has a loud and boisterous demeanor, not caring if his volume annoys others, and can be quite physical in his interactions, such as pouncing on other characters. Despite his rough exterior, he adheres strictly to his own personal beliefs and puts them above the wishes of others, even disregarding direct orders from the powerful organization C3. At his core, he is a character who cares for others and tries to avoid dark conflict. He has a significant soft spot that prevents him from harming cute things like babies or animals, as well as children, women, elderly people, and the ill or weak. This moral code greatly limits the number of people he is willing to fight. He is also bad at admitting to his kinder side, often downplaying his helpful actions with excuses.
His motivations are deeply rooted in his past experiences and his firm personal ethics. He is driven by a concept of freedom, a topic he has contemplated and discussed with Lawless. His actions are often a reaction against injustice or suffering, stemming from the trauma of witnessing the little girl's death after he had shown her kindness. This history suggests a motivation to prevent the powerless from being discarded or abused, aligning with his refusal to harm vulnerable individuals in the present.
In the story, World End plays the role of one of the principal Servamps, whose power and allegiance are significant factors in the larger conflicts. The Eve of Gluttony is noted to make an appearance at a hot spring owned by a character named Tetsu, where his words deliver a shocking truth that impacts the ongoing resistance battle within C3. He also participates in key events among the Servamps, such as a vote, where he tries to intervene when another Servamp, Lawless, becomes physically aggressive with Sleepy Ash, also known as Kuro, the Servamp of Sloth. He is shown holding Lawless back after their fight, demonstrating his role as an intermediary who dislikes unnecessary violence among his brethren.
His key relationships include his Eve, Niccolo Carpediem, to whom he is bound by contract. He has a notable history with Lawless, as Lawless was present at the moment of World End's violent rebirth and observed him with sorrow. In the present, he is not afraid to physically restrain Lawless to prevent further conflict. He is also acquainted with Sleepy Ash, having appeared at the shelter where Kuro was staying to introduce himself as the Sixth Servamp. The character known as Old Child, the Servamp of Pride, has described World End as emotional, referencing his decision to defy an order from C3.
Concerning his development, the defining moment of his existence was his transformation from a celebrated but captive human fighter into an undead Servamp, immediately followed by the traumatic discovery of the little girl's death. This event cemented his disdain for those who treat the weak as disposable and likely informs his current personality, where he masks his underlying kindness with a loud and hungry exterior.
As a Servamp, World End possesses the standard abilities common to his kind. He can transform into an animal form, which all Servamps do in sunlight as they cannot be exposed to it without changing. He cannot be killed by conventional means but can be defeated if he loses all of his Jin, a type of life energy. He has the power to create Subclass vampires by giving his blood to a dying human, who then becomes bound to serve him. As a Servamp, he is far stronger than a human and likely has his own unique strengths in either magic or combat, which would be amplified after drinking the blood of his Eve, Niccolo. Like all Servamps, he is subject to certain weaknesses: he cannot swim in flowing water, collapses if touched by holy water, and is only permitted to drink his Eve's blood, not that of any other person. If the contract bond with his Eve is broken, he would lose all his Jin and become extremely weakened.
