Description
In the anime MegaMan NT Warrior, Bass is a Solo NetNavi, meaning he operates without a human partner. His origins are deeply entwined with ancient and corrupted data, as he was born from the residual remains of the powerful NetNavi PharaohMan after that figure was deleted. Initially an empty and silent being, Bass underwent a profound awakening after capturing MegaMan and scanning his memories. This act allowed him to learn about his own creation and inherit PharaohMan's deep-seated hatred for humanity, specifically for the scientist Tadashi Hikari who sealed PharaohMan away. This discovery gave him a clear purpose, transforming him from a blank slate into a conscious, power-hungry entity.
Bass's core personality is defined by a singular drive to become the strongest being in the cyberworld and to rule it, rather than to destroy it. He is a maniacal and power-hungry NetNavi who relentlessly absorbs data to increase his own strength. Despite his affinity for darkness and immense power, he possesses a strong sense of pride and rationality. He refuses to align himself with organizations like Nebula, seeing their goals as beneath him or interfering with his own ambitions. His view of humanity is one of utter contempt; after observing the human world through the robotic body of Kid Grave, he deems it worthless. However, his motivations are not purely evil. Because the cyberworld is his home, he will defend it from existential threats like the asteroid Duo or the cosmic being Slur, acting as a morally gray force that sometimes indirectly saves the world while pursuing his own self-serving goals.
Throughout the series, Bass serves as both a formidable enemy and a reluctant ally to MegaMan. His primary goal is to obtain the Ultimate Programs that reside within MegaMan and ProtoMan, seeking to merge them with his own to achieve ultimate power. His rivalry with MegaMan is central to his role, and on occasion, the two have combined their power, such as when they formed Bass Cross MegaMan to defeat the monstrous Nebula Gray. He also has a significant relationship with Slur, a servant of Duo, who initially overpowers him with ease. This defeat fuels his growth, and he later returns to defeat and delete Slur after absorbing the power of Nebula Gray. Bass also demonstrates a twisted sense of kinship, creating a robot named Allegro, whom he calls his "little brother," designed to generate Dimensional Areas, though he ultimately destroys Allegro for displaying childish, human-like behavior.
Bass's development across the anime sees him evolve from an empty, silent husk searching for meaning to a powerful, vocal antagonist with a clear will to conquer the cyberworld. After his awakening, he takes control of Kid Grave's lifeless body to navigate the human world, using it as a vessel to observe and further cement his disdain for humanity. Following a climactic battle with Slur that destroys that body, Bass ultimately leaves Earth, choosing to wander the cyberworld of space. He vows to one day face his rival, MegaMan, again, solidifying his status as a wandering, powerful force whose ultimate fate remains open.
As a NetNavi, Bass possesses a range of devastating abilities. His most iconic power is Data Absorption, which allows him to absorb any kind of data, from viruses to other Navis, and add their strength to his own. He also possesses his own Ultimate Program, a source of immense power that he seeks to complete. In combat, he wields powerful attacks such as Hell's Rolling, where he throws several purple, bladed wheels of energy; Darkness Overload, a massive beam of dark energy; and the Dark Arm Blade, a close-range sword-like strike. After his defeat of Nebula Gray, Bass absorbs the entity's power, making himself significantly stronger and capable of defeating Slur, who had previously bested him with ease. His genius intellect is also notable, as he successfully created Allegro, a robot capable of generating Dimensional Areas, a technological feat matched by few others in the series.
