Description
Dex Oyama is a recurring character in the MegaMan NT Warrior anime, known as a classmate and primary rival to the main character, Lan Hikari. Dex is the operator of the powerful NetNavi GutsMan.EXE, and the two share a deep bond and similar headstrong personalities.

In terms of background, Dex is a student in the same class as Lan, Mayl Sakurai, and Yai Ayanokoji. He has a younger brother named Chisao, who idolizes Dex and believes him to be the greatest NetOperator in the world. Dex feels a strong responsibility to live up to this image and maintain his brother's respect, which serves as a significant motivation for him.

Dex's personality is defined by his arrogance and boastfulness, especially regarding his skills as a NetBattler. He is prone to bragging and often acts as a schoolyard bully, using his large stature to appear intimidating. However, beneath this tough exterior, he is fundamentally good-hearted and loyal. He cares deeply for his friends and is willing to put himself at risk to help them. Dex is also known for his short temper, particularly when Mayl shows affection towards Lan, as he has a persistent but unrequited crush on her. Like his rival Lan, Dex is not particularly academically inclined and often forgets to do his homework.

Dex's primary role in the story is as Lan's friendly rival. Before the events of the series, he consistently defeated Lan in NetBattles. This dynamic changed completely when Lan received his custom NetNavi, MegaMan.EXE, who could easily defeat GutsMan. This shift established a new rivalry, with Dex constantly striving to improve his skills and one day surpass Lan. While he provides comic relief in many episodes, he is also a reliable ally who participates in Net Battles against various threats and provides key assistance during major incidents.

His key relationships are central to his character. His rivalry with Lan is the most prominent, pushing him to train harder. His friendship with Mayl is complicated by his crush on her, which she does not return. His relationship with his little brother Chisao is also very important, as Dex strives to be a hero in his eyes. Finally, his partnership with his NetNavi, GutsMan, is a reflection of his own personality. GutsMan is a carbon copy of Dex in many ways, relying on brute force and possessing a "gung-ho" attitude, and he shares Dex's feelings for Mayl and rivalry with MegaMan.

Dex undergoes notable development throughout the anime. While he starts as a boastful bully who looks down on weaker NetOpers, his defeats at Lan's hands humble him and help him realize the error of his past behavior. He remains a dedicated NetBattler and enters major tournaments like the N1 Grand Prix. Later in the series, Dex leaves ACDC Town for a period to work and train at a curry restaurant with former members of the WWW, returning with a new focus and a matured attitude. He eventually continues working as a curry chef, showing a shift in his life's direction away from being purely a NetBattler. He was also one of the few individuals who attempted to use the Cross Fusion system, though his attempt was unsuccessful.

As a NetOperator, Dex's notable abilities lie in his unorthodox but powerful battle style. He favors direct, powerful attacks through his Navi, GutsMan, who specializes in brute force with punches, shockwaves, and a massive hammer-like fist. While this makes him predictable compared to more tactical fighters like Lan, his raw power is formidable enough to rank highly in competitions and make him a valuable asset in a fight. He is also trained in physical combat for his own protection and has a fondness for action and shooting games, and is surprisingly skilled at chess.
