Description
Lan Hikari is the human protagonist of the anime MegaMan NT Warrior, sharing the role with his NetNavi MegaMan.EXE. He is an eleven-year-old fifth grader enrolled at ACDC Elementary School and lives in DenTech City with his father, the renowned scientist Yuichiro Hikari, and his mother Haruka. Lan receives MegaMan.EXE from his father as a custom NetNavi upon entering the fifth grade, replacing his earlier standard-issue NormalNavi.
Lan is energetic, headstrong, and deeply committed to justice, but he is also lazy when it comes to schoolwork and often oversleeps, leading to tardiness. He loves netbattling and possesses natural instincts for tactical combat and virus busting, though his ego and overconfidence can sometimes cloud his judgment and cause reckless mistakes. Despite these flaws, he is loyal, kind, and quick to jump into danger to protect others. His simple outlook on life makes him emotionally vulnerable at times, but he steadily matures throughout the series, learning to think before acting and to rely on his comrades.
His primary motivation is to become a world-class netbattler, a goal that evolves into a broader desire to protect the cyber world and the people he cares about from internet terrorists such as the organization World Three and later groups like Grave and Nebula. Lan serves as the operator of MegaMan.EXE, directing him in battle by feeding him Battle Chips and strategies. Beginning in the Axess season, Lan gains the ability to physically merge with MegaMan through a technique called Cross Fusion, allowing them to fight together in the real world. He is also recruited as a Net Savior, an official guardian of cyberspace.
Key relationships define Lan’s journey. He shares a profound bond with MegaMan, treating him as a brother rather than a tool, and MegaMan often acts as the voice of reason. Lan’s childhood friend Maylu Sakurai has a romantic crush on him, though he is largely oblivious. He maintains a friendly rivalry with Chaud Blaze, the disciplined operator of ProtoMan.EXE, which eventually deepens into mutual respect and close alliance. Other close friends include Dex Ogreon, Yai Ayano, and later allies such as Raika. He also develops respect for former enemies like Mr. Match and receives aid from the independent Navi Bass at critical moments.
Over the course of the series, Lan grows from an impulsive amateur into a legendary netbattler. He experiences significant setbacks, such as MegaMan’s temporary deletion during the N1 Grand Prix and moments of deep personal guilt when his actions endanger others. These events temper his worldview and make him more thoughtful and responsible. By the later seasons, he works seamlessly with his team, mastering advanced techniques like Cross Fusion and contributing to the defeat of major threats.
Notable abilities include his sharp, often intuitive judgment in battle, his capacity to achieve full synchronization with MegaMan during Cross Fusion, and his skill in rapidly selecting and using Battle Chips. His physical attributes include short brown hair, brown eyes, and a habit of wearing an orange bandana bearing the Hikari family symbol, as well as detachable rollerblades he uses for fast travel. He is also known for a large appetite, with curry being his favorite food.
