Description
Taichi Narata, a ballet instructor at the Kouka School of Musical and Theatrical Arts, is both uncle and sole trusted male figure to Ai Narata, a trust forged through his childhood efforts to shield her from harm. His surname—signifying "apple tree," "virtuous," and "field"—and given name, meaning "great one," reflect a legacy of protective strength.

During Ai’s youth, Taichi confronted her abuse by her mother’s partner, Seiji, installing a lock on her bedroom door and offering her a key to his home as sanctuary. Though these actions prioritized physical safety over emotional healing, his attempts to mediate with Ai’s mother underscored his role as a defender, even as psychological wounds lingered unaddressed.

In the present, Taichi advocates for Ai’s continued enrollment at Kouka, seeing the school as a haven from male-dominated spaces. He supports her indirectly, nudging her roommate Sarasa Watanabe to foster friendship, and listens to Ai’s fears when a stalker resurfaces. Yet he defers to Sarasa for direct intervention, repeating a cycle of well-meaning yet partial solutions. His actions reveal a struggle to balance his desire for Ai’s recovery from androphobia with the layered realities of her trauma.

Central to Ai’s journey, Taichi embodies steadfast guardianship tempered by unresolved complexities. His unwavering presence contrasts with the limitations of his strategies, highlighting the tension between safeguarding and the necessity for profound emotional recovery.
