Description
Aigami, also known by his real name Deeva, is the primary antagonist of the feature film Yu-Gi-Oh!: The Dark Side of Dimensions. He is a mysterious young man who transfers into the class of Yugi Muto and his friends at Domino High School, though this identity is a fabricated memory implanted in the minds of those around him. His true background is far more complex, rooted in a tragic past as an orphan who, along with his sister Sera and a companion named Mani, was rescued from an abusive guardian by a man named Shadi Shin. Shadi became a mentor to the children, taking them to Egypt and teaching them about the Millennium Items and their powers, before he was killed by the dark spirit of the Millennium Ring. On his deathbed, Shadi entrusted Deeva with a powerful artifact known as the Quantum Cube.

Personality-wise, Deeva is characterized by a calm, quiet, and often cold exterior that masks a deeply driven and idealistic nature. He is defined by his absolute, almost fanatical, belief in Shadi's teachings about a pure, ideal world existing beyond the current dimension. The creator of the series noted that the source of his menace is the terrifying purity of his beliefs; he is not motivated by typical villainy but by a sincere, albeit misguided, desire to create a peaceful utopia free from the hatred and corruption he sees in the existing world. This unwavering conviction leads him to be ruthless in pursuing his goals, showing little hesitation in banishing people to other dimensions where they cease to exist. This passive, emotionally restrained demeanor was a deliberate choice by the animators to emphasize his role as a character who watches the world coldly, in contrast to the more active, passionate rivals of the original series. However, when later corrupted by the evil of the Millennium Ring, his personality transforms drastically, becoming overtly sadistic and demonic.

Deeva's primary motivation is to prevent the return of the Pharaoh, Atem, to the world of the living. He believes that if the Pharaoh returns, the door to the new, perfect dimension that Shadi promised will close forever, and he and his fellow chosen children will lose their powers. To this end, he seeks to stop the reassembly of the Millennium Puzzle, which serves as the vessel for the Pharaoh's soul. He steals two of its pieces and actively challenges those he sees as threats to his mission: Seto Kaiba, who is obsessed with resurrecting the Pharaoh to duel him, and Yugi Muto, who is the Pharaoh's vessel. Another key motivation is a desire for revenge against Ryo Bakura, as it was the dark spirit inhabiting his Millennium Ring that murdered Shadi.

In the story, Deeva first appears as the mysterious transfer student Aigami, using his powers to observe Yugi and his friends. He confronts Kaiba during the excavation of the Millennium Puzzle, engaging him in a Duel that is left unfinished. He later confronts and banishes Joey Wheeler and Bakura to other dimensions after learning of Bakura's connection to Shadi's death. His plan culminates in a Duel against Yugi at Kaiba Land, where his goal is to defeat Yugi and solidify his control over the puzzle pieces. After losing to Yugi, he retreats to the dimension where Mani perished and is corrupted by the Millennium Ring, transforming into a monstrous, corrupted version of himself. In this state, he challenges both Yugi and Kaiba to a final Shadow Game, where he is ultimately defeated by the spirit of the Pharaoh, who briefly returns through Yugi. Following his defeat, the evil leaves him, and he is last seen parting ways on good terms with his revived friend Mani and his sister Sera.

Key relationships heavily define his character. His sister Sera serves as both a companion and a moral counterpoint, as she comes to question his extreme methods. His deceased master Shadi is the ideological core of his entire mission, and Deeva's actions are a direct attempt to fulfill what he believes was Shadi's will. Mani is a loyal friend who tries to keep him from going too far, ultimately dying in an attempt to protect him. His primary antagonists are Kaiba and Yugi, whom he views as obstacles to be eliminated. His hatred is reserved for the spirit of the Millennium Ring and its host, Ryo Bakura, whom he holds responsible for his master's death. The character's development sees him move from a controlled and calculating idealist to a desperate and corrupted monster, before finally finding a measure of peace after his defeat, having been freed from his obsessive quest.

Deeva possesses several notable abilities, primarily derived from the Quantum Cube given to him by Shadi. This cube allows him to teleport himself and others, banish people and objects to other dimensions where they dissolve into nothingness, and alter the memories of entire populations. The cube can also transform into a Duel Disk. In Duel Monsters, he uses a Cubic deck, a strategy focused on summoning and powering up a series of monsters, including the powerful Crimson Nova Trinity the Dark Cubic Lord. When corrupted by the Millennium Ring, his body grotesquely mutates, fusing with the ring and gaining demonic features such as claws, wings, and a tail, which also serves as an organic Duel Disk.
