Description
Laala Manaka is the central protagonist of the anime PriPara. She is an elementary school student at Paprika Private Academy, where she initially attends as a fifth grader before advancing to sixth grade. In the real world, she comes from a family that runs a pizza shop, and she often helps out there, displaying a helpful and energetic nature. Her name, given by her mother, is based on the sixth note of the solfège scale, with the wish that she would always sing happily.

Laala is a bright, cheerful, and highly energetic girl who approaches life with boundless optimism. She is friendly and kind-hearted, rarely holding grudges and always looking for the best in others. She has a habit of mixing up word pronunciations and meanings, which often leads to humorous corrections from those around her. Her characteristic catchphrase is Capisce, which she uses to express agreement or readiness. Despite her upbeat exterior, she occasionally worries about her own abilities as an idol and struggles to balance her school life, family responsibilities, and idol activities. However, she rarely lets these concerns stop her from helping her friends or pursuing her dreams.

Her primary motivation is to become a top idol and bring joy to others through her performances. She believes in the power of friendship and the idea that everyone can be an idol. This drive leads her to discover the PriPara world despite her school’s ban on elementary students participating in idol activities. She possesses a legendary talent known as the Prism Voice, a special vocal ability that enhances her singing and can create emotional effects during performances.

In the story, Laala serves as the main character who introduces viewers to the world of PriPara. She begins as a novice idol who struggles to keep her idol life secret from her school, but she quickly grows into a confident and skilled performer. She becomes a member of the top idol unit SoLaMi♡SMILE alongside Mirei Minami and Sophie Hojo, and later participates in various units and events. Her journey takes her from a beginner to a legendary Divine Idol, with her development focusing on learning the value of teamwork, perseverance, and self-acceptance.

Laala shares deep and meaningful relationships with several characters. Mirei Minami is her first friend in PriPara and a close teammate; their bond is central to the story, as they support each other through challenges. Sophie Hojo is another key teammate, and Laala’s cheerful nature helps Sophie break out of her isolated lifestyle. She also develops a sisterly connection with Falulu, a being created from the dreams of fans, and helps Falulu discover her own heart and emotions. At home, she is an older sister to Non Manaka, and she maintains a warm relationship with her parents.

Throughout the series, Laala undergoes significant development. She starts as a clumsy but earnest beginner who often relies on the help of others, but she gradually becomes a reliable leader and a source of inspiration for her peers. She learns that true success comes not from winning competitions but from supporting her friends and staying true to herself. Her optimism and determination help her overcome obstacles, such as the school’s rules against idols and the schemes of rival characters.

Notable abilities include her Prism Voice, which is considered a legendary power in the PriPara world. When she enters PriPara, her appearance changes dramatically: her lavender hair, normally styled in two small buns, grows into long twin tails, and she becomes taller and more mature-looking. She always wears a distinctive pink bow, a gift from her mother, which she keeps even when using different costumes. She is a lovely-type idol, and her preferred brand is Twinkle Ribbon. Laala is also the first idol to obtain a Super Cyalume Coord and to receive the Cyalume Baton from the character Jewlie. Despite being the youngest member of the main group, her growth and resilience make her a central figure in the PriPara universe.
