Description
Falulu is a central character in the PriPara anime, originally introduced as a mysterious Vocal Doll. Her very existence is unique, as she was born from the accumulated wishes and dreams of girls all over the world who aspired to become idols. These hopes manifested from abandoned PriTickets, leading to her creation. In her initial state, Falulu is a being of pure idol potential, raised and guided by her mascot-like manager, Unicorn, who also cares for her and estimates her mental age to be around ten or eleven years old.
Falulu’s personality undergoes a profound and significant transformation. At the beginning, she is emotionally naive and speaks in a soft, slightly robotic tone with a limited vocabulary, often repeating words and actions she observes in others. She describes things she finds fascinating or beautiful, such as the legendary Prism Voice or the performances of her future friend Laala Manaka, as sparkling. Her emotional range at this stage is limited, but she is not entirely devoid of feeling, showing subtle signs of curiosity and confusion. As she interacts more with the world and particularly with Laala, she begins to experience and express new, complex emotions such as anger, fear, and happiness, even starting to question Unicorn's directives. This emotional development culminates in a critical event where a system error causes her to fall into a deep sleep. She is later awakened by a powerful collective performance and the combined wishes of her friends and their fans. Following this re-awakening, her personality becomes dramatically more vivacious, warm, and fully human-like. Her voice loses its robotic quality, and she matures into a responsible and caring individual, partly due to being entrusted with the care of one hundred younger sister Vocal Dolls, known as the Mini Falulus.
Her primary motivation in the story is initially driven by an intrinsic purpose to seek out and understand the legendary Prism Voice, a rare and powerful singing ability that can deeply move an audience's heart. She senses this voice within Laala and is drawn to her as a result. As she develops, her motivations shift from this passive observation to a genuine desire for friendship, connection, and belonging. Her deepest wish becomes to befriend Laala, though this desire itself triggers a critical error in her programming as a Vocal Doll, leading to her collapse. After her reawakening as a regular girl, her motivation expands to include protecting her newfound family of younger sisters and growing as an idol on her own terms, no longer just as a perfect copy but as an individual.
In the context of the story, Falulu serves as a catalyst for much of the plot and for the growth of the main character, Laala. Initially, she is an enigmatic rival and an object of fascination, observing Laala's earliest performances and recognizing her latent talent. Her presence pushes Laala and her friends to improve, and their shared connection to the Prism Voice becomes a central thread. When Falulu collapses, the ensuing crisis becomes a major turning point, forcing Laala and others to unite their efforts in a desperate attempt to save her, which in turn deepens their own bonds and understanding of what it means to be an idol. After her return, she becomes a supportive friend and a fellow idol, even forming her own unit named Tricolore with two other characters, Hibiki Shikyoin and Fuwari Midorikaze. She also participates in major events like the Divine Idol Grand Prix, actively contributing to the resolution of larger conflicts within the PriPara world. At one point, she even temporarily serves as the stand-in goddess for the system's main deity, Janis.
Key relationships define Falulu’s journey. Her most important bond is with Laala Manaka, who is not only her first true friend but also the person whose prism voice and genuine heart taught her about emotion and individuality. Unicorn acts as her strict but caring guardian and manager, dedicated to her protection. After her reawakening, she becomes the older sister figure to one hundred Mini Falulus, who idolize her and wish to be as famous as she is. She also has a counterpart named Gaaruru, a Vocal Doll born from the negative emotions and despair of idols, who is her opposite in nature but still considered a sister. Later, she forges a strong friendship with Hibiki and Fuwari as part of their unit Tricolore.
Falulu’s character development is among the most distinct in the series, marked by a permanent physical and vocal transformation. The re-awakening event in episode thirty-seven changes her fundamentally: she grows taller, her hairstyle changes from thick braids to long, flowing curls, and her attire becomes more elaborate. Most importantly, she gains a full range of human emotion and the ability to express herself freely, shedding her initial identity as a flawless but hollow Vocal Doll to become a vibrant and unique individual who has learned that imperfection and heartfelt feeling are true strengths.
As a Vocal Doll, notable abilities are central to her original nature. She possesses a perfect memory, able to memorize and flawlessly replicate any dance, song, or performance after seeing it just once. She also demonstrates the ability to perform multiple Making Dramas, the series special performance moves, simultaneously. Furthermore, she is depicted as highly intelligent, able to solve complex mathematical equations in seconds. Her initial singing and speaking voice has an electronic, robotic quality. Additionally, she has an innate ability to sense and identify the legendary Prism Voice in others, a skill that no other character initially possesses. After her re-awakening as a human girl, she loses her perfect copying ability and the robotic quality to her voice, but she gains something more profound: an authentic and emotionally resonant singing voice, and a genuine heart capable of connecting with others, which is the true source of idol power in the world of PriPara.
