Description
In the anime Space Dandy Season 2, the character known as Bee, also spelled Bea, serves as the diminutive and loyal-seeming personal assistant to the recurring antagonist Dr. Gel. Bee possesses a distinct and somewhat whimsical appearance, characterized by a large, oval head shaped much like a cucumber or an eggplant, set upon a light green body. He has medium-length black hair parted at his forehead and typically wears a large white lab coat over a purple shirt with blue pants.
On the surface, Bee is presented as a relaxed and friendly individual, often appearing much more laid-back than his obsessive and driven superior. He dutifully carries out Dr. Gel's orders in the Gogol Empire's relentless pursuit of the alien hunter Dandy. However, Bee notably lacks Gel's intense personal passion for capturing Dandy. He has a peculiar talent for locating his target not through elaborate schemes but through sheer chance and convenience, such as spotting Dandy on a television channel or following social media status updates posted by Dandy's crewmate, Meow.
Throughout the majority of the second season, Bee fills the role of a competent, if unenthusiastic, sidekick who prefers to take the easiest possible path to complete his assignments. This seemingly passive nature proves to be a carefully maintained facade. In the series finale, Bee undergoes a dramatic and pivotal shift, revealing his true allegiance as a spy for the Jaicro Empire, a rival faction to the Gogol Empire. He betrays Dr. Gel by shooting him and then announces his intention to seize the pyonium energy within Dandy for himself, declaring that with this power, he will become the ruler of the entire universe, effectively a god. This moment transforms him from a mere assistant into a significant and self-serving villain.
His primary and defining relationship is with Dr. Gel, whom he ostensibly serves but ultimately betrays for personal gain. After his betrayal, Bee's motivation is clearly revealed to be a hunger for absolute power and universal domination, discarding his previous identity as a subordinate. Bee does not undergo a prolonged arc of development but rather experiences a sudden and complete revelation of his hidden nature, making his treachery the culmination of his character's purpose in the story. His notable abilities include a knack for effortlessly tracking Dandy through mundane means, which contrasts sharply with Dr. Gel's more elaborate and often unsuccessful methods. His final act of villainy, however, is his undoing, as Dr. Gel survives the initial gunshot and, in his dying moments, crushes Bee in his hand, ending his bid for power.
