TV-Series
Description
John Hunter, often called simply Hunter, is an E-Gene Holder affiliated with the supranational organization DOGOO, where he serves as the designated dissector and researcher. His namesake and the source of his power is the 18th-century Scottish surgeon John Hunter, who is noted in the series for his contributions to medicine. Physically, Hunter is depicted as a slender and notably tall man, which makes him the tallest of the E-Gene Holders. He has pale skin, a long face, a light brown mohawk, and a goatee-style beard that gives him an older appearance. His typical attire includes DOGOO's standby uniform of a light blue shirt and pants with a red tie, and his battle suit is colored white and blue.

Hunter's personality is defined by his professional passion and his often gruff demeanor. As the man in charge of researching and dissecting the alien creatures known as Evolutionary Invasion Objects, he genuinely loves his work, often smiling when he is about to begin an operation. However, his enthusiasm for research is matched by a tendency to complain. He is frequently grumpy and vocal about the difficulty of his own work, while regarding the combat-focused roles of other Holders as comparatively easy since they simply have to kill the enemy. Despite his cynical and detached exterior, he does care for his colleagues, showing a special affection towards his platoon partner, Galileo, whom he affectionately calls Galiko. He also has a fondness for Japanese food, particularly the baked noodle dish known as yakisoba.

In the narrative, Hunter's primary role is that of a scientist and support operative rather than a front-line warrior. He is a member of a platoon that includes Galileo and Vidocq. While he is an E-Gene Holder, his expertise lies in analysis and dissection, not direct combat, and he himself acknowledges this by stating he is a doctor, not a warrior. A significant moment in his development occurs when the platoon is overwhelmed by thousands of EIOs. While other powerful fighters like Jack the Ripper and Geronimo engage in direct combat, Hunter uses his intellectual brilliance to turn the tide. By observing that the creatures have rudimentary, aquatic-based eyesight and rely on pheromones to identify allies, he uses his E-Gene abilities to create a chemical compound that neutralizes these pheromones. This causes the EIOs to be unable to distinguish friend from foe, leading them to attack each other and effectively decimating their own forces. This event showcases his growth from a non-combatant researcher into a hero who saves the day not through strength, but through scientific insight and problem-solving.

As for his abilities, Hunter wields an E-Gene weapon that manifests as claws and a syringe. The full scope of his power functions like a portable chemistry set, allowing him to analyze the composition of the enemy and synthesize specific chemical compounds. This ability is what he used to create the anti-pheromone agent that neutralized the EIOs. His defining strength is not raw power but his analytical mind and his capacity to use his unique powers for scientific discovery on the battlefield.
