Description
Arata Mizushima is a first-year student at Shiseikan High School and a member of the school's wind instrument club, where he plays the trombone. He is a young teenager with short, light orange hair and blue eyes, standing at a notably tall height of 185 centimeters. His birthday is on December 3rd, making him a Sagittarius, and his blood type is B. Arata is an only child living with his parents. A significant aspect of his background is that he is a returnee student who lived in Brazil from childhood through the end of middle school before returning to Japan for high school.

Arata possesses a bright, cheerful, and enthusiastic personality, consistently wearing a big smile and maintaining a positive outlook on life. He is very sociable and friendly, often displaying a clingy and affectionate demeanor, particularly towards the protagonist Kanade Kohinata, whom he frequently invites to various places such as restaurants or the seaside. Despite his easygoing nature, he can sometimes be clumsy in controlling his emotions, showing unexpectedly serious or depressed sides as a situation develops. While he is confident and forward, he also has a somewhat insensitive side, not always realizing when he is being imposing. A defining and unique trait of Arata is his extraordinary luck. He has an uncanny ability to win prizes from vending machines and lotteries consistently, a talent he has possessed since a young age. This luck is so pronounced that he often finds himself with an abundance of winning products to give away.

Within the story, Arata is a member of the Shiseikan High School ensemble, which becomes a rival and later an ally to the main characters from Seiso Academy. His role is often that of a cheerful and energetic junior who seeks to pull the protagonist into his lively sphere. Arata is the cousin of Haruto Mizushima, a character from the main Seiso Academy, and he affectionately refers to Haruto as Haru-chan. He is also close friends with Sosuke Nanami, and together with Haruto, the three first-year students are known as the first-year trio. Within his own club at Shiseikan, he is often on the receiving end of scolding or corrective actions from his senior, Shiro Hozumi, due to his overly forward or rambunctious behavior.

Motivationally, Arata is driven by a desire for attention and enjoyment. He chose to join the smaller wind instrument club over the larger brass band club precisely because he wanted to stand out more. His actions are largely guided by his pursuit of fun and bright experiences, as reflected in his stated ideal type being a girl with whom he can play happily. In terms of development, Arata is somewhat distanced from the central conflict of the series, as he joined his club after a split between the wind instrument and brass band clubs, making him less entangled in the existing tensions compared to his upperclassmen. However, he still navigates the complex dynamics, keeping his friendships with members of the rival faction discreet from his seniors. His abilities, beyond his skill with the trombone, include his exceptional luck and practical skills like quickly typing text messages on his phone, with hobbies that include sport kite flying and mobile photography.
