Description
Kōmei Ren is the second prince of the Kou Empire. He is the full younger brother of Kouen Ren and shares the same mother with him, while Kouha Ren, Kougyoku Ren, Hakuei Ren, and Hakuryu Ren are his half-siblings. He serves as a general of the Western Subjugation Army under the command of his eldest brother Kouen. Kōmei is also a Dungeon Capturer; he captured the dungeon of Dantalion at the age of twenty, becoming a metal vessel user and one of the magi Judar's king candidates.
Kōmei is first and foremost a military strategist and tactician. He prefers to remain in the background, planning operations and directing forces rather than fighting on the front lines. He possesses a genius-level aptitude for military strategy, which he uses to maintain the Kou Empire's legal and administrative control over conquered territories such as Balbadd. His approach to warfare is rational and methodical, and he lacks the thirst for blood that characterizes some of his brothers. On a personal level, Kōmei is calm and reserved, but he is also notably helpless in daily life. He becomes so absorbed in strategizing that he neglects his sleep and meals, and his physical appearance often suffers as a result. He requires others to take care of his basic needs, and his preferred type of partner is someone who will look after him. He dislikes overly energetic people and enjoys spending his free time shut away in his own room.
His role in the story is primarily that of a behind-the-scenes commander and support figure. He orchestrates the imposition of slavery in Balbadd, which creates direct conflict with Alibaba Saluja. During the Magnostadt arc, Kōmei coordinates multiple metal vessel users and uses his abilities to assist his brother Kouen in battle, notably teleporting away the immense flames of Kouen's extreme magic to prevent collateral damage. Later, in the civil war that engulfs the Kou Empire, Kōmei takes the field as the supreme commander of a 190,000-man army. Despite his careful planning, he is unable to account for the unforeseen betrayal of Hakuei Ren, who was possessed by Alba, and his forces are overwhelmed. After the conflict, he is exiled together with Kouen and Kouha to Sama Island for three years. He eventually returns to the empire wearing a mask and reunites with Alibaba to face new challenges.
Kōmei’s most important relationship is with his older brother Kouen. Kouen trusts Kōmei’s strategic judgment completely, and Kōmei devises plans that maximize Kouen’s overwhelming combat power. Their partnership is built on mutual reliance: Kouen provides the offensive force, and Kōmei handles the tactical direction and damage control. He also shares a close bond with his younger half-brother Kouha, who affectionately calls him "Mei-nii." Despite their contrasting personalities—Kouha being energetic and outgoing, Kōmei being withdrawn and introspective—the two maintain a positive sibling relationship.
Kōmei develops significantly over the course of the story. He begins as a purely analytical figure who operates from the shadows, but he is forced into direct command and must cope with defeat and exile. This experience tempers him and deepens his resolve. Upon his return, he is more willing to act directly and to cooperate with former adversaries.
His most notable ability is his strategic genius, which makes him one of the most effective military minds in the Kou Empire. In terms of combat, he relies on his Djinn Dantalion, which specializes in teleportation magic rather than direct offensive power. While he himself has little to no combat ability without his metal vessel, Dantalion’s magic allows him to teleport allies, reposition large objects, and even move entire mountains. His extreme magic is the Seven Star Transfer Formation, which can transport colossal masses over great distances. He typically uses this power to support his allies and to mitigate damage from large-scale attacks, making him a unique metal vessel user who prefers not to fight directly.
