Satoshi Hino

Description
Satoshi Hino is a Japanese voice actor and narrator born on August 4, 1978, in San Francisco, California. His full birth name is Satoshi Robert Hino. He was raised in Tokyo after living in San Francisco until the age of five. As of July 2011, he is affiliated with the talent agency Axl-One, having previously been with Production Baobab until June 2011.

Hino's path to voice acting began with a foundation in stage performance. During his teenage years, he was a member of a children's theater company and initially aimed to become a stage actor. His focus shifted to voice acting after he participated in the dubbing of the American television drama ER. He landed his first lead role in 2001 as Eddie in the overseas drama Wanda Eddy, broadcast on NHK Educational TV. Initially unaware of a direct connection between dubbing and anime, he was invited to audition for the series Ikki Tousen by its dubbing director, a role which became his first regular position in animation.

Hino is recognized for his wide vocal range and versatility, seamlessly transitioning between character types. He is known for playing ordinary young men, powerful villains, and characters with multiple personalities. A notable example is his performance as Rei Shingetsu and Vector in Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL, where he switched between timid, serious, and psychotic tones for the same character. His role as Shut in Go! Princess Precure surprised many fans as he voiced a character with a feminine appearance using a distinctly masculine, greasy tone. He also portrayed a yandere character in a drama CD and the languid, sexy Noiz in the BL game DRAMAtical Murder.

One of the most significant recurring collaborations in his career has been with fellow voice actor Rie Kugimiya. They co-starred in multiple series produced by JCSTAFF, with Hino as the male lead and Kugimiya as the tsundere heroine. This iconic pairing began with Shakugan no Shana (Yuji Sakai) and continued with The Familiar of Zero (Saito Hiraga). They also appeared together in Gintama, where Hino voiced Kamui, the brother of Kugimiya's character Kagura. This long-standing partnership continued into later works such as the 2024 series Chillin' in Another World with Level 2 Super Cheat Powers, where they again played the male and female leads.

Among his extensive list of roles, Hino is well-known for several iconic characters. He voices the protagonist Momonga, also known as Ainz Ooal Gown, in the Overlord series, a role that requires balancing the persona of an ordinary office worker with the commanding presence of an undead overlord. He is also the voice of the passionate and powerful Kyojuro Rengoku in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. His filmography includes a wide range of other significant characters: Sai in Naruto Shippuden, Kamui in Gintama, Daichi Sawamura in Haikyu!!, Akito Takagi in Bakuman, Hayato Shinkai in Yowamushi Pedal, Shiage Hamazura in A Certain Magical Index, and Gauche Adlai in Black Clover, among many others.

In his personal life, Hino married fellow voice actor Saki Nakajima in 2014. They have two children, a son born in 2016 and a daughter born in 2020. He holds a first dan in kendo and has a beginner's level in the martial art. He is also known for his humorous anecdote about receiving cans of mackerel in miso paste as birthday gifts from radio staff, which led to him being nicknamed the Mackerel King.
