Description
Azazel, a demon dwelling in Pandemonium, was once a Cherub in Heaven before his fall. He cuts a tall, muscular figure with silver-grey hair, brown eyes, facial hair, and braids, creating a stern and intimidating first impression. Yet beneath that formidable exterior lies a kind, gentle, and shy soul. He communicates in a distinctive way: he rarely speaks aloud, instead writing his thoughts on display boards. His actual voice is usually kept internal.
Secretly, he adores cute and fluffy things, amassing an extensive collection of stuffed animals — especially teddy bears — in his room. This passion fuels his sewing skills, leading him to frequently craft stuffed toys, often at the request of Beelzebub. He also bakes, excelling at making cookies.
Azazel holds romantic feelings for Belphegor, a fellow Pandemonium resident plagued by extreme social anxiety. He deeply regrets that his appearance scares her and actively tries to seem less threatening to put her at ease. Their relationship blossoms with moments of mutual affection: she visibly delights in accepting his cookies, and in a pivotal moment, he overhears her confessing her feelings for him, causing him to blush visibly. They form a secondary romantic pairing in the narrative.
Azazel also contrasts with Mullin: where Mullin is smaller and tries to project masculinity, Azazel's large, traditionally masculine build stands in stark contrast to his openly gentle hobbies and demeanor. He embraces traditionally feminine-coded activities like sewing and baking. Consistently throughout the series, he maintains his gentle nature and hidden passions, striving to bridge the gap between his intimidating appearance and his sincere longing for connection, especially with Belphegor.
