Description
Kinjirō Sakamachi is the male protagonist of the story, a sixteen-year-old second-year high school student whose life is dominated by a singular, debilitating condition: gynophobia, an abnormal fear of women. This phobia manifests in an extreme physical reaction; any physical contact with a female causes his nose to bleed profusely, and in more severe cases involving extended or intense exposure, he may sweat heavily, break out in a cold sweat, or even faint on the spot. The root of this condition is not a psychological aversion but a learned physical reflex. His mother and younger sister, both passionate about professional wrestling, used him as a living training dummy for ten years, subjecting him to daily grappling, throws, and beatings. His body developed the nosebleed as a defense mechanism, a desperate attempt to make his attackers stop for fear of ruining the carpet with blood. This upbringing, while traumatic, has also endowed him with an extraordinarily resilient and durable body, capable of withstanding significant physical punishment that would incapacitate a normal person.

Despite his often frantic and victimized exterior, Kinjirō has a fundamentally kind and principled personality. He frequently finds himself as a "butt-monkey," subjected to teasing, embarrassment, and physical abuse from the girls around him, yet he rarely responds with genuine malice. He has a strong sense of responsibility and a protective Big Brother Instinct, particularly towards his sister Kureha, who is ironically the primary source of his daily suffering. He also has a notable complex about his full name, Sakamachi Kinjirō, as the syllables can be combined to sound similar to the English word chicken, a nickname he despises. He prefers to be called by the shortened name Jirō. On a more mundane level, he is known to have simple tastes, with a particular fondness for instant noodles.

Kinjirō's role in the story is set in motion by a chance encounter in the school bathroom, where he stumbles upon the most popular and handsome student, Subaru Konoe, wearing girls' underwear, thereby discovering that the elite butler is, in fact, a girl. For this discovery, he is nearly silenced permanently by the panicked Subaru, but is saved by the intervention of her master, the sadistic heiress Kanade Suzutsuki. To ensure his silence, Kanade forces him to sign a contract; in exchange for his secrecy, she promises to use her considerable resources to find a cure for his gynophobia, though her methods are often twisted and designed for her own amusement. This agreement makes him the reluctant Secret-Keeper at the heart of the series, forced to navigate a world of close calls and escalating comedic situations to prevent Subaru's true gender from being revealed.

His relationships with the main female characters are complex and central to the narrative. His bond with Subaru Konoe evolves dramatically over the course of the story. Beginning as a victim and her would-be assaulter, they quickly settle into an uneasy acquaintanceship and eventually become close friends. Because everyone else believes Subaru is a boy, the two are frequently mistaken for a gay couple, a misunderstanding that creates its own set of comedic and social problems. As they spend more time together, Kinjirō comes to understand her fears, her complex about her duty, and the immense pressure she is under. For Subaru, he represents her first real friend, and she eventually develops deep romantic feelings for him. For his part, Kinjirō finds his own feelings growing as well; even before knowing she was a girl, he was troubled by how cute he found Subaru, and the discovery of her true gender only deepens this connection. In stark contrast, his relationship with Kanade Suzutsuki is one of a cat playing with a mouse. She holds absolute power over him via the contract and uses it to orchestrate elaborate, often perverse, scenarios under the guise of treating his phobia. Despite her sadistic nature, she is a crucial ally, and her schemes are the primary catalyst for most of the plot's developments. The cause and primary enforcer of his gynophobia is his younger sister, Kureha Sakamachi. She continues to wake him up every morning with a series of wrestling moves, yet she also cares for him deeply. A significant source of irony for Kinjirō is that Kureha, unaware of Subaru's true gender, develops a massive crush on Subaru, believing her to be a boy.

Throughout the series, Kinjirō displays a subtle but distinct character development. While he remains a victim of circumstance, he transitions from a passive sufferer of his phobia to someone who actively tries to overcome it for the sake of others. He becomes more courageous in defending Subaru's secret and her honor, often putting his own well-being and health at risk. This growth is not a complete transformation of his personality but a strengthening of his existing resolve. In the light novel and manga continuations, his development culminates in him taking a significant "Level in Badass," undergoing training to the point where he can fight on equal terms with Subaru's incredibly powerful father, proving that the years of childhood abuse have forged him into a surprisingly capable fighter. Aside from his superhuman endurance and pain tolerance, Kinjirō's most notable ability is his sheer physical resilience. Years of being used as a punching bag have made him incredibly tough, allowing him to survive near-death experiences, including being run over by a vehicle, and get back up. This durability is his primary asset in a world full of athletic and often violent women, enabling him to serve as the story’s indestructible straight man.
