Description
Kineshi Hairo is a student and the class representative for class 2-3 at PK Academy. He is a classmate of the protagonist, Kusuo Saiki, and is recognized as one of the more prominent figures in their grade due to his overwhelming energy and leadership qualities. Physically, Hairo has spiky maroon or red hair, brown or red eyes, and stands 171 centimeters tall. He is often seen with a band-aid on his nose and a recurring visual gag involves his trousers falling down during physical activities. His name is a pun on the word pyrokinesis, which directly relates to one of his more unusual personal attributes.

The core of Hairo’s personality is defined by being extremely hot-blooded, energetic, and passionate. He possesses an unyielding spirit that has earned him the epithet of Mister Never Gives Up. His enthusiasm is infectious, and he constantly tries to motivate his classmates with rallying cries about seizing the moment and regaining the innocence of youth. Because of his kindness, reliability, and natural leadership skills, he is well-trusted and popular among his peers. However, his intense drive is also his greatest weakness, as his overzealous nature often leads to a lack of common sense. For example, his eagerness has led him to damage school property during a fire drill and nearly cause an explosion by hoarding too many gas canisters. Despite his fiery demeanor, he is a reasonably normal and academically capable student, having ranked sixth in his class on exams, though he notably cannot cook.

Hairo serves as an energetic foil to the more reserved and apathetic Kusuo Saiki. While Saiki often finds Hairo’s loud and overbearing nature annoying, he secretly respects his class representative’s strong will and admirable work ethic. Hairo’s primary motivation and a key aspect of his role in the story is his self-declared rivalry with the physically powerful but simple-minded Riki Nendou. He constantly challenges Nendou to various sports and strength contests, seeing him as a formidable rival and a good friend, though he almost always loses. Hairo also has a deep obsession with tennis, which is his favorite sport, and he frequently tries to recruit others, including Saiki and Nendou, to participate in tennis camps and matches. His enthusiasm is so great that he considers the retired professional player Shuzo Matsuoka to be his guardian spirit.

Hairo maintains positive, though sometimes strained, relationships with other members of Saiki’s circle. He is supportive of Shun Kaidou, but has shown a lack of confidence in Kaidou’s abilities during high-pressure situations like sports day. He also stood up for the former delinquent Aren Kuboyasu, which earned him Kuboyasu’s deep respect. A notable and often joked-about trait is that Hairo is completely immune to the charms of the beautiful Kokomi Teruhashi, whose perfect looks do not affect him at all. His intense focus on sports and rivalry once led his classmates to speculate about his sexuality, but it is suggested he simply has no interest in romance and has never felt romantic attraction.

Perhaps Hairo’s most distinct ability is his incredible generation of body heat. By working up his enthusiasm and exerting himself, he can radiate enough thermal energy to melt snow in seconds or warm an entire classroom. The source or mechanism for this pyrokinesis-adjacent power is never explained within the series. Beyond this unusual trait, he possesses high athletic strength and stamina, capable of running a ten-kilometer marathon without rest, though his raw power is consistently outmatched by Riki Nendou. Throughout the series, Hairo shows little character development in terms of changing his ways, as his unwavering and relentless personality remains a constant, often serving as the primary source of his comedic mishaps and his surprisingly effective motivational influence on the student body.
