Description
Kazuma Shishiguro is an Onryo, a type of vengeful spirit, and a Yo-kai of the Tough tribe. He serves as the constant partner and chief of staff to the human student Mera Raido, calling him boss and following him at all times. Kazuma possesses a humanoid form with dark skin, gray hair, yellow eyes, and a metal piercing near his lips. The most notable feature of his appearance is a set of burn marks on the right side of his face that form a pattern resembling a lion. He typically wears a buttoned-up school uniform with a color scheme similar to his master's. In combat, Kazuma wields a sword known as the Lion Sword, a moderately curved katana with a dark red blade and gold markings.
Kazuma's origin story is tied to his death and his connection to Mera Raido. Before his death, Kazuma saved a young Mera from bullies. Mera then asked him to teach him how to fight, seeking revenge. However, after training, Mera renounced his desire for revenge. To test Mera's character, Kazuma prepared to confront the bullies himself, but Mera stepped in to resolve the situation without violence. Impressed by Mera's strength of heart and body, Kazuma swore his loyalty to him. Kazuma later died a heroic death shielding a little girl from a truck. After becoming an Onryo, he appeared again when Mera's house caught fire, helping Mera rescue his sister from the flames. When it became apparent that Kazuma might pass on, Mera asked him to stay as his subordinate, solidifying their bond as boss and retainer.
As a personality, Kazuma is taciturn and follows his boss, Mera Raido, without question. He is a skilled fighter with both his sword and his fists. His actions are motivated by a deep sense of loyalty to Mera, whom he respects profoundly, living by the creed that the boss's big brother is my big brother. He acts as a Big Brother Mentor to Mera, having taught him how to fight.
In the narrative of Yo-kai Gakuen Y, Kazuma plays the role of Mera Raido's Onryo partner. Their primary ability is to merge, with Kazuma possessing Mera to transform him into the Yo-kai Hero named Shishi O, also known as Shishio.
