Description
Mayu is a shinki, or divine weapon, who serves the god of learning, Tenjin. She was originally a shinki of the stray god Yato, who gave her the name Tomone, but she eventually left him because she could no longer tolerate his lazy, irresponsible nature and his casual talk about killing. After leaving Yato, she became one of Tenjin's shinki under the name Mayu. In her former human life, she lived in Japan during World War II; she had a husband who was drafted into the war and a daughter named Kiyoko. Her time with Yato is regarded by her as an embarrassing or regrettable chapter of her existence.
Mayu is characterized by a strong sense of honesty and justice. She is principled, responsible, and self‑controlled, with a tendency toward perfectionism.
