Description
Daikoku is the sole shinki, or divine weapon, serving the goddess Kofuku. He is a tall man with an intimidating presence, characterized by his shoulder-length black hair, sharp eyes, and stubble on his chin. He typically dresses in a pink shirt with brown trousers. In his vessel form, Daikoku transforms into a black Japanese hand fan.

Despite his stern and often aggressive exterior, particularly when defending his master, Daikoku possesses a deeply caring and gentle nature. He is known to be a stable and reliable individual. A notable aspect of his personality is a strong fondness for children, and he has expressed a wish that he could have been a father.

Daikoku's primary motivation is the protection and service of Kofuku, to whom he is fiercely loyal. He lives with her and manages their household, which also serves as the base of operations for the god of poverty. In his role as a shinki, he acts as her guardian and enforcer. Within the story, he often provides a stable, if grumpy, adult presence for the younger characters, particularly the new shinki Yukine, for whom he acts as a reluctant mentor and caretaker. He has a long-standing acquaintance with the god Yato, whom he frequently berates and kicks out of the house for his freeloading habits, though this relationship is built on a foundation of mutual trust and history.

One of his most significant relationships is with Kofuku. He calls her my lady in a manner that playfully suggests the word for wife, and his actions show a deep, devoted love for her. He is openly affectionate towards her and becomes aggressive if he perceives anyone, especially Yato, making unwanted advances. Daikoku also has a painful history related to his love for children; Kofuku once named a child shinki, Daigo, to make Daikoku happy. However, when Daigo began to question why he would not grow up, the resulting emotional turmoil caused Daikoku to blight Kofuku, forcing them to release the child. Daikoku grieved deeply for this loss.

Daikoku undergoes significant emotional development through his role as a caretaker. Initially a secondary figure, his character is explored more deeply when he accepts the orphaned Yukine into his home. This allows him to partially fulfill his desire to be a father figure, helping to heal the old wound left by Daigo's departure. He learns to navigate the responsibilities of parenting a troubled adolescent shinki, offering guidance and stability.

As a shinki, Daikoku possesses standard abilities such as performing borderlines, which are used for purification rituals. However, his most notable ability is unique to his partnership with Kofuku. In his vessel form as Kokki, he can open vents, which are direct portals to the underworld, allowing Kofuku to summon a massive tide of Gloom, a dangerous miasma that attracts phantoms. This ability is considered immensely powerful and frightening, fitting for the servant of the god of poverty. Daikoku also deliberately refrains from becoming a blessed regalia, a more powerful form of shinki, because doing so would amplify Kofuku's powers of disaster to a potentially catastrophic degree.
