Description
Anya Alstreim is a character from the second season of the anime Code Geass. She holds the rank of Knight of Six within the Holy Britannian Empire's Knights of the Round, a group of elite warriors who serve directly under the emperor. At just fifteen years old, she is the youngest individual ever to be appointed to this prestigious order.

In terms of appearance and personality, Anya is a petite girl with pink hair and red eyes, and she is frequently described as a "three-no"少女 (sanmu shojo), a term indicating she is often silent, expressionless, and emotionally detached. She carries an air of melancholy and is very introverted, rarely speaking more than a few words or showing interest in the people and events around her. A notable and distinctive habit of Anya's is her near-constant use of her camera-equipped mobile phone. She takes pictures of everything and regularly updates a personal blog, not as a record of memories, but as a substitute for them, which she considers unreliable.

Despite her quiet and seemingly absent-minded demeanor, Anya is a formidable soldier who takes her duties and title as a knight very seriously. She pilots a powerful, heavy assault Knightmare Frame named the Mordred, which is outfitted with massive four-barreled hadron cannons and missile systems. Her combat style contrasts sharply with her appearance, relying on overwhelming firepower and forceful close-quarters attacks to annihilate her enemies.

Anya's background is deeply entwined with the imperial family's secrets. As a young child, she was sent to the Aries Villa as an apprentice to learn proper etiquette, where she served Empress Marianne vi Britannia. During this time, she was a witness to Marianne's assassination at the hands of V.V. In the ensuing chaos, the dying Empress used her Geass power to transfer her own consciousness into Anya's body, where it lay dormant. To protect this secret and prevent V.V. from silencing her, Emperor Charles zi Britannia used his own Geass to seal away Anya's memories of the event.

As a result of these Geass manipulations, Anya suffers from a fragmented and untrustworthy memory. She cannot distinguish between her own experiences and the times when Marianne's consciousness surfaces, causing confusion and a persistent feeling of wrongness that drives her obsessive documentation of events. Her role in the story is initially that of an antagonist, serving as one of the key military assets of the Empire and later as a guardian to Nunnally vi Britannia. She is transferred to Area 11 (Japan) alongside her fellow Knights, Suzaku Kururugi and Gino Weinberg, with whom she shares a friendly, if distant, rapport. She briefly enrolls at Ashford Academy, joining the student council as part of their cover.

Anya's character undergoes a significant development when her hidden past is finally uncovered. During a battle with Jeremiah Gottwald, he suspects she is under the influence of Geass and uses his Geass Canceller to neutralize the effects, restoring her original memories and freeing her from both Charles's and Marianne's control. Upon regaining her sense of self, she turns against the main protagonist, Lelouch vi Britannia, stating that she dislikes the person he has become and aligning herself with his rival, Schneizel el Britannia. Following the climactic Zero Requiem, Anya chooses a peaceful life. She goes to work on Jeremiah's orange farm as a way of thanking him for freeing her from her cursed past, and later returns to serve under the newly reformed Britannian Empire led by Nunnally.
