Yūko Gotō

Description
Yūko Gotō is a Japanese actress, voice actress, and singer born on August 28, 1975. She is affiliated with the talent agency Axlone, having previously been contracted to Production Baobab. Gotō stands 163 cm tall and is known for her fluent English speaking ability.

Gotō began her voice acting career in 1999 with her first role as Kaneto Sakurai in the series Iketeru Futari. Throughout the 2000s, she gained significant recognition for a variety of prominent roles. She is perhaps best known for voicing Mikuru Asahina in the widely popular The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya franchise, including its spin-off series The Melancholy of Haruhi-chan Suzumiya, the film The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya, and The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan. Another pivotal role from this period was Kaede Fuyou in Shuffle! and Shuffle! Memories, which helped her gain early recognition.

In direct contrast to the soft and vulnerable characters she often portrays, Gotō has a well-documented real-life persona as a devotee of biker culture, including riding motorcycles and dressing in a corresponding style. This personality was parodied in the anime Lucky Star, where she voiced a fictionalized, masculine version of herself named Gotouza. Her fluency in English has also led to her being cast in roles that require speaking the language or portraying foreign characters.

The breadth of her career includes major roles in a wide array of series. She voiced Hiro across multiple installments of the Hidamari Sketch franchise, including Hidamari Sketch, Hidamari Sketch × 365, Hidamari Sketch × Honeycomb, and the graduation special. In the Code Geass franchise, she voiced Anya Alstreim in Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2, Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;surrection, and the Nunnally in Wonderland OVA. She also portrayed Abiru Kobushi in the Sayonara, Zetsubou-Sensei series, Menace in Queen's Blade, and Junko Kaname in Puella Magi Madoka Magica. Other notable roles include Hikari Hanazono in S.A, Jacqueline in Arakawa Under the Bridge, Georgie Saikawa in Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid S, Rein in Fushigiboshi no Futago Hime, and Bukubukuchagama in Overlord.

In 2012, Gotō publicly announced that she was undergoing treatment for idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura and systemic lupus erythematosus. She has continued to perform voice acting work while managing her health, which has affected the pace of her career, and she remains active in the industry. Her more recent roles include Mayu Matsukaze in Why the Hell are You Here, Teacher!?, Sumire Sakurakomi Tanabe in CITY The Animation, and Edinburgh in Azur Lane.
