Mayu Matsukaze is the art teacher and student council advisor at Kawanuma West High School. She stands 146 cm tall with violet eyes and matching violet hair typically braided over one shoulder, paired with an 85-58-86 figure.
At age 21 during her fourth university year, a cascade of misfortunes—heavy traffic and a broken shoe heel—jeopardized her arrival at a critical teacher certification exam. Rin Suzuki intervened, carrying her on his back to reach the venue on time. This act imprinted deeply on her, igniting lasting affection, though Rin left anonymously. She initially presumed him older, only to be stunned when he enrolled as a younger student at her school.
Students revere her as "Holy Mother Matsukaze" for her gentle, saintly kindness. Yet Rin's presence unravels her into flustered clumsiness. Typically patient, extreme embarrassment occasionally sparks anger, as when she and colleague Kana Kojima retaliated against students during a cleanup incident. Privately romantic, she deems her meeting Rin "better than my fantasies" and capitalizes on intimate opportunities, like kissing him asleep. Her loyalty drives steadfast support for Rin, ostracized due to his intimidating appearance.
Their bond deepens through recurring accidental—often compromising—encounters. Post-graduation, she accepts Rin's marriage proposal at the Kawanuma Festival. They wed two years later; she takes his surname, becoming Mayu Suzuki, and retains her braids as a commitment symbol.
She struggles with swimming. A minor discrepancy exists in her exam location: the manga cites Saitama University, while the anime uses fictional Ayatama University.
