Description
Makina is the dragon partner of Akira Souya, bonded through a resonance that links their souls. She appears as a young woman with very long blue hair and orange eyes, but she is a water-type dragon capable of shifting between a human-like communicator form and a full dragon form. In her communicator form, Makina can manipulate water, and in her dragon form she attacks with liquid whips, concentrated spheres of water, and countless ice crystals from her wings; these abilities are especially effective against fire-based opponents.
Makina acts as a big sister toward Akira, often correcting her speech and keeping her in check. She makes it clear that she follows Akira out of her own choice, not because Akira is her master, indicating a strong sense of independence and loyalty. Her protective nature is the core of her personality; she is calm and observant but becomes ferocious when Akira is threatened. Because the bond between them is unusually deep, Makina takes a keen interest in other resonating pairs such as Jin and Toa, and she is curious about Gio, whom resonance does not affect.
In the story, Makina serves as Akira’s closest ally and a formidable combatant in the conflicts between humans and dragons. She participates in missions alongside Akira, using her water and ice attacks to support their allies. The defining moment of her development comes when Akira is killed by Garnet MacLaine on Mars; Makina’s resonance is severed and she flies into a berserk rampage. Afterward, she encases herself and Akira’s body in ice, effectively sealing them away. Approximately a year later, she merges with the entity Thanatos as part of its soul. When Thanatos departs Earth to find peace, the spirits of Makina and Akira are seen smiling at each other, having proven that humans and dragons can coexist. That final reunion marks the completion of her emotional arc: from a fiercely protective partner to a tragic loss, and finally a spiritual reconciliation that reinforces the series’ theme of harmony.
