Description
Hiroshi Kuzumi, a high school student, moves with his family to the secluded mountain town of Jouga. The town is steeped in folklore and traditions, with a strong emphasis on the legend of the "Okami," or wolf gods, who are said to protect the town. As Hiroshi settles into his new life, he begins to notice strange occurrences and a growing sense of unease among the townspeople. The town is divided into two distinct areas: the "Upper Town," where the wealthy and influential reside, and the "Lower Town," home to the working class. This division is not merely social but also tied to the town's ancient customs and secrets.
Hiroshi befriends several classmates, including Isuzu Tsumuhana, a reserved girl with a mysterious connection to the town's traditions, and Nemuru Kushinada, a cheerful and outgoing classmate who seems to know more about the town's secrets than she lets on. As Hiroshi delves deeper into the town's history, he discovers that Jouga is governed by a secretive council known as the "Okamikakushi," who enforce the town's strict rules and rituals. These rituals are tied to the legend of the Okami, and those who defy the council or the town's customs are said to disappear without a trace.
The narrative takes a darker turn when Hiroshi's younger sister, Mana, goes missing. Desperate to find her, Hiroshi uncovers the truth about the Okamikakushi and their role in maintaining the town's balance. The council sacrifices individuals deemed "impure" or disruptive to the town's harmony, offering them to the Okami as part of a ritual to ensure the town's prosperity. Hiroshi learns that his family's move to Jouga was not coincidental but part of a larger plan orchestrated by the council.
As Hiroshi confronts the Okamikakushi, he must navigate a web of lies, betrayal, and supernatural forces. The series explores themes of tradition versus modernity, the cost of maintaining order, and the lengths to which people will go to protect their way of life. The climax reveals the true nature of the Okami and the council's motivations, forcing Hiroshi to make difficult choices that will determine the fate of his family and the town.
The main characters include Hiroshi Kuzumi, the protagonist driven by his determination to uncover the truth and save his sister; Isuzu Tsumuhana, whose connection to the town's traditions makes her a key figure in the unfolding mystery; and Nemuru Kushinada, whose dual role as a friend and informant adds complexity to her character. The series blends elements of mystery, horror, and folklore, creating a tense and atmospheric narrative that keeps viewers engaged until the final revelation.
