Description
Cordelia is the first wife of the vampire king Karlheinz and the biological mother of the triplets Ayato, Kanato, and Laito Sakamaki. Her lineage is notable, as she is the illegitimate daughter of the Vibora King and a woman from the progenitor First Blood family, making her a half-vampire who carries First Blood lineage. At the time the main story takes place, she is already deceased, having been murdered by her three sons. Despite her death, her presence looms large over the narrative, primarily through her heart, which was transplanted into the human heroine Yui Komori, making Yui a vessel for her lingering will and consciousness.
Cordelia is defined by a deeply selfish, manipulative, and cruel personality. She is extremely promiscuous and holds a self-centered, hedonistic worldview, pursuing her own desires without regard for anyone else. Her primary driving motivation is an obsessive, unrequited love for her husband, Karlheinz. She craves his attention and validation above all else, a desire that curdles into intense jealousy and rivalry with his other wives, Beatrix and Christa. This desperation for Karlheinz’s affection is the root cause of nearly all her actions, including the horrific abuse she inflicts on her own children. Her understanding of love was twisted from a young age, having been manipulated and given a false meaning of love by Karlheinz himself, which explains many of her toxic behaviors.
In the story, Cordelia serves as the tragic catalyst for the deep psychological scars the triplets carry. Her role is largely that of an antagonistic ghost from the past. Her most significant act in the present is her scheme to be resurrected using Yui’s body, aiming to use her sons’ lingering feelings for her to turn them against each other. Key relationships reveal the extent of her damage. She is horrifically abusive to her sons: she pushes Ayato to be the best through physical and mental torment, including water torture; she neglects Kanato while using his singing voice for her own amusement and has sex with her lover Richter in front of him; and she sexually abuses Laito from a young age, warping his understanding of love and intimacy. She also carries on a lengthy affair with Richter, Karlheinz’s brother, whom she manipulates with promises of power.
Throughout the series, Cordelia shows no genuine remorse or change in her fundamental nature. However, some routes depict moments where her toxic possessiveness is briefly redirected, such as showing a temporary, twisted form of care for Yui when Yui acts as a nurse to her. Her development is less about personal growth and more about the gradual revelation of her tragic backstory as a pawn in Karlheinz’s grand schemes, which adds a layer of dark complexity to her villainy. In terms of abilities, as a vampire with First Blood heritage, she possesses all the standard supernatural traits of her kind, including superhuman strength and longevity. However, her most notable ability is her acute manipulative cunning, using her beauty and perceived vulnerability as weapons to control those around her. Her ultimate power lies in her unyielding will, which allows her consciousness to persist from beyond the grave, manipulating events through her still-living heart.
