Movie
Description
Kojiro is a member of Team Rocket who, alongside his partners Musashi and Meowth, appears as an incidental antagonist in Pokémon the Movie: Genesect and the Legend Awakened. The trio has traveled to New Tork City, where they continue their standard routine of trying to steal rare and powerful Pokémon, with Ash's Pikachu remaining their primary target. Their antics form a secondary thread of comedy and conflict, running parallel to the film's central drama between the ancient Pokémon Genesect and the legendary Mewtwo.

Originally from a wealthy and prestigious family in the Kanto region, Kojiro abandoned that restrictive and superficial life to join Team Rocket. This background helped shape his contradictory personality. He is often dramatic, narcissistic, and theatrical in his villainous posturing, yet he is also notably the most polite, anxious, and gentle member of the trio. A defining aspect of his nature is his deep and sincere empathy for Pokémon, treating his own with genuine kindness and affection rather than as mere tools. In the Best Wishes era, which encompasses this film, he adopted a somewhat more serious and competent demeanor as an advanced agent, though his inherent soft-hearted nature and propensity for bad luck remain intact.

Within the film, Kojiro's primary motivation remains loyalty to his organization and the pursuit of valuable Pokémon. His role in the story is limited to familiar comic relief; he and his team provide background obstacles for Ash but are largely disconnected from the main narrative involving the Genesect and Mewtwo's confrontation. Despite being antagonists, his underlying character prevents him from engaging in true cruelty, preserving the trio's identity as mostly harmless schemers.

Kojiro's most significant relationships are with his teammates. He shares a deep, unspoken bond of loyalty with Musashi and Meowth, cemented through years of shared hardship and failure. He is similarly devoted to his own Pokémon, such as his longtime companion Carnivine and his Unova-region acquisitions like Yamask and Amoonguss. His notable abilities include a strong aptitude for mechanics, as he is usually responsible for designing, building, and piloting the team's elaborate machines, balloons, and traps. He also possesses a solid knowledge of Pokémon types and strategies, though his plans invariably fall apart.
