Movie
Description
Nyasu is a Meowth who belongs to Team Rocket and appears in Pokémon the Movie: Genesect and the Legend Awakened as part of the recurring antagonist trio alongside his partners Jessie and James. He is an unusual Pokémon in that he walks on two legs and can speak human language, a skill he taught himself as a stray in order to impress a female Meowth he admired. The effort cost him most of his battle potential, and his combat ability is essentially limited to the move Fury Swipes. He also speaks with a distinctive verbal tic, often ending sentences with a cat-like sound, and he can understand the speech of other Pokémon, which lets him serve as a translator for his human partners.

In personality, Nyasu is talkative, quick-witted, and resilient. He frequently comes up with the schemes Team Rocket uses in its attempts to capture Pikachu and other strong Pokémon, and he is deeply loyal to the organization and its leader. Although he acts as an antagonist, he is not truly cruel; he often shows sympathy for Pokémon in difficulty and disapproves of plans that would genuinely harm others. His main motivation across the story is to carry out Team Rocket’s mission successfully and to earn recognition within the group.

Within this movie release, his part in the main feature is modest, since the story centers on the conflict between the ancient Pokémon Genesect and the legendary Pokémon Mewtwo, with Team Rocket appearing largely in the background. His more prominent moments occur in the companion short screened alongside the film, Pikachu and Eevee☆Friends, and in the notice segments shown in theaters. In the short, he and the Pokémon Wobbuffet serve as housekeepers at a forest home where Eevee and its evolved forms live, helping manage the lively household that also includes Pikachu, Axew, Pansage, and Oshawott. In the theater notice animations, Nyasu helps guide the audience on how to receive a special red Genesect during the film’s distribution event.

His key relationships remain consistent with the wider series. He is a devoted companion to Jessie and James, and the three share a durable friendship despite their constant failures. He pursues Pikachu relentlessly but has occasionally shown grudging respect and cooperation when circumstances force them to work together. Toward other Pokémon, he tends to be friendly and empathetic, a trait that sets him apart from more serious villains. His development within the film itself is limited, but his housekeeping role in the companion short highlights his industrious and helpful side outside his usual schemes. Among his notable abilities are his gift for human speech, his skill as an interpreter of Pokémon language, his manual dexterity and talent for odd jobs, a measure of resistance to electric attacks, and his signature Fury Swipes, which he relies on in battle.
