Description
Chokkei Hayami is a supporting character in the anime New Cutey Honey. He is the son of Akakabu and Daiko Hayami, making him a member of the new Hayami family who serve as key allies to the protagonist, Honey Kisaragi. His design and role carry a reference to Banji Suke, the protagonist of Oira Sukeban, another work by the franchise's creator, Go Nagai.

In terms of personality, Chokkei is initially portrayed as shy, particularly around attractive girls. He quickly develops a significant crush on Honey, to the point of frequently following her around. Despite this initial timidity, he possesses a core of kindness and hope. As the original video animation series progresses, Chokkei undergoes noticeable character development, growing more confident in himself. This newfound courage becomes so pronounced that he is eventually willing to put his own life on the line to protect others.

Chokkei's primary role in the story is as one of Honey Kisaragi's main supporters. The narrative often places him in dangerous situations where villains use him as bait to lure out his allies. Despite this, he occasionally proves himself useful, managing to distract enemies or striving to help his family members when they are in peril. His motivation stems from an earnest desire to help those he cares about, and he holds a firm belief in the importance of friends and family, a philosophy he attributes to Honey's influence.

His key relationships are central to his character arc. His infatuation with Honey is a major driving force in the early part of the series, though as the story continues, he meets a thief named Natsuko and eventually starts to develop genuine romantic feelings for her. Throughout the rest of the series, Natsuko stays by his side. Chokkei also shares a close bond with his eccentric family, including his grandfather, the aged but powerful Danbei Hayami, and his reformed criminal parents, who are known to put their criminal tendencies aside for the sake of their son. His development is marked by this emotional shift from a shy boy with an unrequited crush to a braver individual capable of forming a deeper connection with another person. Chokkei does not possess any notable superhuman or combat abilities, his value lying in his courage, loyalty, and his role as an emotional anchor for the other characters.
