Description
Mara is a demon from Niflheim, the Norse realm of the dead, and serves as one of the recurring antagonists in The Adventures of Mini-Goddess. She is a First Class Demon, which grants her access to Hell’s computer system and a wide array of supernatural abilities. Her physical appearance features long blonde hair, red eyes, and distinctive red facial marks including a pair of slashes on her forehead and double triangles on her cheeks. She typically wears dark, somewhat theatrical clothing.

Her background is closely tied to the goddess Urd. The two were childhood friends who grew up together, but their paths diverged when Urd chose to become a goddess. This separation left Mara with a lingering bitterness, and she often behaves in a cynical, unpleasant, and mean-spirited manner. However, she is not genuinely evil in a traditional sense; her antagonism toward the goddesses is largely professional. Her official assignment from Hell includes soul gathering, contract negotiations, and interfering with the goddesses, with Belldandy as a primary target. She rarely engages in direct confrontation and prefers to work through servants, magical items, or manipulation, retreating quickly when outmatched.

Mara’s personality is practical and somewhat lazy. She takes pleasure in causing trouble but does not act out of deep malice—it is simply her job. She has a dry sense of humor and can be sarcastic. Her motivations stem from both duty and a desire to prove herself, though she often finds herself outwitted by the goddesses. Her relationship with Urd is the most significant: their shared history creates a dynamic of rivalry mixed with an undercurrent of old friendship. Mara interacts with the other goddesses, Belldandy and Skuld, primarily as a nuisance, and she occasionally schemes with other demons.

Over the course of the series, Mara shows little deep character development, but she remains a consistent source of comedic conflict. She is resourceful and adaptive, frequently attempting new schemes that backfire in humorous ways. Her notable abilities include wish granting, possession, suggestion, transformation, shrinking objects, remote vehicle operation, emotional manipulation, matter rearrangement, data downloading, power transfer, sealing and unsealing powers, summoning servants and lesser demons, levitation, flight, short range teleportation, energy shields, energy blasts, and a hellfire thunder blast. She also has two notable weaknesses: she is compelled to dance uncontrollably when exposed to disco or rock music, and she is severely allergic to good luck charms. In combat, she avoids direct fights when outnumbered, preferring cunning over brute force. Mara is a memorable supporting antagonist whose presence adds a layer of chaotic mischief to the adventures of the mini-goddesses.
