Description
Nagisa Akatsuki is the younger sister of Kojou Akatsuki and a student at Saikai Academy middle school, where she is in the same class as Yukina Himeragi and Kanon Kanase. She has a bright and outgoing personality, being chatty and warm with people she likes, and is known for being an excellent cook who frequently prepares meals for her family. Despite her cheerful demeanor, Nagisa carries deep trauma from an incident four years prior when she was almost killed in a train accident caused by demons. This event left her with a lasting fear of demons and supernatural beings, a condition that persists throughout much of the story. Her trauma was compounded by being possessed by a malevolent entity known as Root, a dark consciousness that later manifested within her.
Nagisa’s background is marked by her unique heritage. She was trained as a miko, or spirit medium, by her grandmother, and she also inherited the blood of a hyper adapter from her mother, making her an extremely rare hybrid. Her natural abilities include psychometry, the power to sense memories and information from objects or locations, which made her sought after by universities and institutions for locating ancient ruins and deciphering ancient inscriptions. However, she lost these powers due to the trauma she experienced.
Her motivations are primarily rooted in her strong bonds with her family and friends. She is deeply protective of her brother Kojou, even though she is unaware for a long time that he has become the Fourth Primogenitor, a powerful vampire. Her role in the story evolves from being a normal schoolgirl to a pivotal figure when the entity Root awakens inside her body and hunts other Kaleid Bloods. Nagisa’s consciousness is suppressed as Root uses her form to commit atrocities, but she ultimately fights back with the help of Avrora and Kojou. In a critical moment, she manages to transfer Avrora’s soul into herself just before Root is destroyed, thereby saving Avrora and allowing the twelfth Kaleid Blood’s consciousness to reside within her.
From that point onward, Nagisa carries Avrora’s consciousness and gains the ability to summon the twelfth familiar, Alrescha Glacies, which can decrease temperature below absolute zero. This ability is not under her full control initially and requires her to act as a vessel. Following these events, Nagisa loses all memories related to Avrora and her own powers, and her mother, Mimori Akatsuki, becomes her personal physician to monitor her health.
Nagisa’s key relationships include her close friendship with Yukina Himeragi, who becomes her classmate and neighbor; her bond with Kanon Kanase and Yuuma Tokoyogi; and her complex connection with her brother Kojou. She is fiercely loyal and often serves as a grounding presence within the group. Throughout the series, Nagisa develops from a traumatized but cheerful girl into a resilient individual who bears a heavy burden while still maintaining her caring nature. Her growth is marked by her willingness to sacrifice for others and her struggle to reconcile her ordinary life with the extraordinary events surrounding her.
