Description
Inari B is one third of a set of identical triplets who serve as high-ranking priests attached to the guard station in the Heian capital, alongside her sisters Inari A and Inari C. The three sisters share a striking and uniform appearance, characterized by white fox masks and an aesthetic reminiscent of traditional Japanese dolls, which marks them as otherworldly and ancient figures within the setting.
As members of the guard station, the Inari triplets hold a position of authority, particularly over the Makai Knight Raikou, who addresses them with respectful language and follows their orders. Their outlook on their duties is defined by a strict and detached philosophy of non-interference. They consider human curses and conflicts to be merely their own tricks and maintain that unless a Horror is directly involved, the affairs of the human world are not their concern. This perspective leads them to adopt the role of bystanders for much of the story, observing events from a distance rather than actively participating.
True to this neutral stance, Inari B and her sisters often display a dismissive or even condescending attitude toward the main characters. When Raikou speaks of fighting Horrors, one of the Inari responds with sarcasm, questioning what he can truly accomplish while sealed in his armor. This indicates a lack of complete trust in the young knight, a sentiment that persists even after he gains the ability to summon his armor independently, with one of the sisters telling him that he is still not fully trusted. In contrast, the onmyoji Seimei speaks to them in plain language and refuses to follow their commands, leading the Inari to threaten her with a butterfly, though this is presented as more of an intimidating joke than a genuine act of malice. The triplets express a clear preference for those they consider loyal, comparing Raikou favorably to a "loyal dog" while expressing dislike for the rogue Hakamadare, whom they label a "wild dog".
Despite their claimed position as uninvolved observers, the Inari show signs of possessing great knowledge and power. Kintoki refers to them as a fox god, hinting at their divine or long-lived nature, and they speak with an old-fashioned tone that suggests they have lived for a very long time. Seimei implies they hold considerable knowledge about Horrors. Notably, they appear to know something about the mysterious red moon that is central to the plot, as one of them mentions having seen it before. Late in the series, after being criticized by higher authorities for their inaction, the triplets demonstrate their formidable power by using their abilities to single-handedly subdue the powerful sorcerer Dou Ashiya, revealing that their passive role is a choice rather than a limitation. Through this action, Inari B and her sisters show that when they decide to act, they are capable of altering the course of events decisively.
