Description
Christa Lenz is a supporting character from the anime and manga Attack on Titan, whose true identity and personal journey become central to the story's exploration of legacy, duty, and self-worth.

Physically, Christa is notably petite, standing only 145 centimeters tall, with long, blonde hair parted in the middle and large blue eyes. Her delicate appearance, combined with her helpful nature, leads her fellow recruits in the 104th Training Corps to nickname her goddess.

However, this kind and selfless persona is largely a constructed facade. Christa Lenz is the false identity of Historia Reiss, the illegitimate daughter of Rod Reiss, a nobleman who is part of the true royal family ruling within the walls. Her background is marked by profound isolation and neglect. Growing up on a remote farm, she was ignored by her mother, Alma, and kept away from other children, who would throw stones at her. Her only solace came from secret visits with her half-sister, Frieda Reiss, who taught her to read and encouraged her to be a good girl before erasing her own memories. After the fall of Wall Maria, her father attempted to reclaim her, leading to a confrontation where her mother was killed before her eyes. To save her life, Rod Reiss banished her under the alias Christa Lenz, sending her to the military where it was assumed she would likely die.

As Christa, she is the embodiment of selflessness. She is kind, gentle, and always eager to help others, often putting their needs before her own, such as when she secretly gave food to Sasha Blaus as punishment. Her motivations during this period are not purely altruistic but stem from a deep-seated lack of self-esteem and a desire to be loved. She plays the role of a perfect, martyred girl to gain approval, a behavior that her close friend Ymir harshly criticizes as hypocritical.

Her relationship with Ymir is the most significant in her early life. Despite Ymir's abrasive personality, the two are inseparable. Ymir sees through Christa's performance and loves her for her true, vulnerable self, even manipulating the graduation rankings so Christa could place tenth and have the chance to join the safe Military Police. Ymir’s devotion profoundly impacts Christa, compelling her to eventually abandon the false Christa persona and live as her true self, Historia. It is also noted that fellow soldier Reiner Braun develops strong romantic feelings for her, viewing her as an ideal woman.

Christa's role in the story evolves dramatically from a supporting cast member to a key political figure. Initially a trainee and then a member of the Survey Corps, she participates in major battles, including the Battle of Trost and the expedition to capture the Female Titan. After her true heritage is revealed, she becomes the center of a coup d'état led by the Survey Corps to overthrow the puppet government. It is then that she must confront her father, Rod Reiss, who wants her to inherit the power of the Titans and become a puppet queen. In a decisive act of defiance, she rejects her father's will and chooses to destroy him, slaying his monstrous Titan form and seizing her own destiny.

Following this, Historia Reiss is crowned the queen of the Walls. As queen, she initially defies expectations of a traditional monarch; she is known for being largely disinterested in bureaucratic politics, famously spending her time working on an orphanage and playing with children on the farm where she was raised, leading the populace to nickname her the Cow Goddess. Her development is therefore a circular one: she goes from a neglected child playing a role, to a warrior, to a revolutionary leader, and finally to a monarch who chooses to live authentically. Her personal motto, declaring herself the worst girl in history, is a direct rejection of the idealized roles others tried to force upon her.

In terms of abilities, Christa graduates as the 10th best soldier in her class, a respectable rank that she herself admits is higher than she expected, due in part to Ymir's intervention. Her physical strength is below average, but she compensates with proficiency in horseback riding and is noted for having a quick mind, even if she avoids complex strategic thinking. Her true strength lies not in combat but in her resilience, charisma, and her unique royal bloodline, which holds the key to the power of the Founding Titan.
