Description
Atsushi Taga is a character from the romantic comedy series First Love Monster. He is a first-year university student majoring in economics and resides in room 5 of the Kasumisou boarding house. Physically, Atsushi is an adult male with blue eyes and brown hair that reaches his neck. His birthday falls on February 13, making him an Aquarius, and his blood type is B. He is often seen wearing glasses, which complements his sharp and intelligent appearance.

In terms of personality, Atsushi is best described as sharp-tongued and what is known as a "sadistic" or "demonic" character type. While he can appear charming and confident on the surface, he often struggles to take things seriously and has a lazy streak. His primary mode of interaction is to tease and provoke others. He frequently makes jokes at the expense of his fellow resident, Kouta Shinohara, specifically targeting Kouta's inexperience with women and threatening that as long as Kouta remains a virgin, he will be Atsushi's slave. This behavior extends to the female lead, Kaho Nikaidou, towards whom he is deliberately mean and goes out of his way to intimidate and say unkind things.

Despite his outwardly cruel demeanor, Atsushi's motivations are more complex than simple malice. He eventually reveals that he harbors romantic feelings for Kaho. This conflict between his actions and his true feelings is a central part of his character. He deliberately treats her poorly, but this is later understood as a misguided way of dealing with his own emotions. His feelings come to a head when he unexpectedly kisses Kaho, an act that creates significant turmoil among the main group of characters. Following this event, Atsushi is shown to be capable of feeling guilt and remorse, as he spends time sulking and wrestling with the consequences of his actions on his relationships with Kaho and the other main character, Kanade.

Atsushi's role in the story is that of a foil and a source of conflict. He is not a primary love interest but rather a disruptive secondary character whose actions test the resolve of the main couple. His key relationships are defined by his antagonism. With Kouta, his relationship is one of domineering teasing. With Kaho, he shifts from being a pure antagonist to a conflicted admirer. He also has a notable connection to Kanade Takahashi, the male protagonist. Atsushi claims to value and understand Kanade more than Kaho does, positioning himself as a protective figure over the younger boy while simultaneously creating a love triangle. As the story progresses, Atsushi shows signs of development by moving beyond simple mockery to confront his own lack of self-awareness regarding his emotions, admitting that he does not understand his own feelings very well. He has no notable special abilities or powers, as the series is grounded in everyday human interactions and comedic situations.
