Description
Kiseki Kusanagi is the younger twin sister of Takeru Kusanagi and a central figure in his past and motivations. She is a girl of sixteen years with black hair and brown eyes, who serves as the current host of Hyakki Yakou, a manifestation of countless demons born from an inherited curse of the Kusanagi Clan. Her existence is defined by this curse, which dictates that the males of the clan carry demon souls in human bodies while the females, like Kiseki, possess the soul of a human trapped within a monstrous demonic body.

Due to the extreme danger she poses, Kiseki has spent most of her life in captivity. She is kept in a maximum-security prison deep within an Inquisition holding facility, where she is routinely sedated to keep her powers suppressed. Her power is such that anything she touches is dissolved and absorbed by her body, causing her demonic form to grow uncontrollably; it is feared that if left unchecked, she could eventually consume the entire planet. To combat this, she must be routinely killed and then brought back to life, a process that temporarily destroys her demonic body parts but inflicts unimaginable physical and mental torment. The Inquisition also conducts countless experiments on her near-immortal body as a means of studying and containing her threat.

Personality-wise, Kiseki is presented as a tragic figure. Despite her horrifying power and the agony she endures, her fundamental nature is that of a sweet, shy, and deeply lonely girl. Having interacted with almost no one besides her brother for years, she is fearful of strangers but retains an inherent kindness toward those who treat her as a human being. Her most defining characteristic is her profound love for her brother, Takeru, which has developed into an intense brother complex. She cherishes his visits above all else, as they are her only solace and help maintain her mental stability. This dependence also manifests as jealousy towards the female teammates in his life, particularly Ouka Ootori. Over time, she becomes consumed by immense guilt over the death and destruction her very existence causes. Coupled with her constant physical torment, this drives her to a single, desperate wish: for Takeru to kill her and end her suffering. When this wish is denied, her psyche can fracture, leading to a psychotic obsession with destroying the world in the hope that it will force her brother to finally grant her death.

In the story, Kiseki is the primary reason Takeru enrolls in the Anti-Magic Academy and aspires to be a high-ranking Inquisitor, as he needs both power and money to find a way to save her. Her escape from the Inquisition's underground facility triggers a major arc, forcing Takeru and the 35th Test Platoon to confront her powers directly. Her role is that of a living disaster and a deeply personal antagonist whose tragedy lies in her lack of malice, as she is merely a victim of forces beyond her control. Her key relationships are almost exclusively centered on her twin brother, Takeru, who is her only emotional anchor. Other significant figures include the Inquisition Chairman, Sougetsu Ootori, who manipulates her situation for his own ends, and Hayato Kurogane, who is often sent to subdue her when her powers rage out of control.

Kiseki undergoes considerable development, moving from a passive, suffering prisoner to an active agent in her own tragic narrative. Initially a docile girl who endures her torment for the sake of her brother's visits, her despair grows until she openly begs for death. When Takeru, unable to fulfill that wish, promises to die with her instead, she finds temporary relief. However, the continuation of her suffering eventually twists her desire. She decides that she will not be satisfied dying alone if Takeru can live on with others, leading her to try and destroy everyone he cares about, believing that only then will he be forced to kill her—and perhaps die alongside her. Her notable abilities are derived from her status as the Hyakki Yakou. Her primary power is absorption; her demonic flesh can assimilate any matter it touches into her own body, making her grow more powerful. This process is driven by her subconscious emotions, particularly fear and loneliness. She also possesses a powerful form of immortality, as she cannot be permanently killed through conventional means, only temporarily destroyed. Her threat level is officially classified as SS, the highest possible, deeming her a walking natural disaster capable of ending the world.
