Description
Jiroumaru is a supporting character from the 2015 anime film The Boy and The Beast. He is the younger son of Iouzan, the lord of the beast realm, placing him in a position of privilege within that world. As a child, Jiroumaru has a blunt and confrontational personality, believing that a person's worth is determined entirely by their physical strength. When the human boy Kyuta first arrives in the beast realm, Jiroumaru immediately picks on him, viewing the newcomer as weak. However, this dynamic shifts completely when Kyuta fights back and defeats him. Rather than holding a grudge, Jiroumaru is impressed by Kyuta's display of strength and promptly warms up to him, becoming a loyal friend.

Following this childhood encounter, the two form a close bond. As he grows into a teenager, Jiroumaru's personality mellows considerably, and he transforms into a friendly and easygoing individual. He develops a more balanced perspective, granting respect to both his own father and Kumatetsu, the master whom Kyuta trains under. Jiroumaru's key relationships are defined by loyalty. He greatly admires his older brother, Ichirōhiko, and this admiration is rooted in his brother's superior strength. Later in the story, Ichirōhiko becomes corrupted by bitterness and arrogance, but this does not change Jiroumaru's feelings toward him; he continues to view Ichirōhiko as his brother regardless of the circumstances or what others might think.

Jiroumaru’s role in the story is primarily that of a supportive friend and a secondary character whose development helps illustrate the themes of growth and fraternal bonds. He provides a contrast to his older brother, as Jiroumaru matures into a more balanced and accepting individual while Ichirōhiko grows more troubled. In terms of his physical appearance, as a child he is notable for his thick brown unibrow. As a teenager, he adopts a distinctive pompadour hairstyle. Regarding his abilities, the narrative focuses more on his arc of personal growth and loyalty than on specific combat techniques, though as a beast residing in the martial world of Jutengai, he is naturally capable of physical feats and participates in the rigorous training environment alongside Kyuta and the other beastmen.
