Description
Meifon Sakura is a supporting protagonist from Valkyrie Drive Mermaid. She is half Taiwanese and half Japanese and was transferred to Mermaid Island long before the main characters Mamori Tokonome and Mirei Shikishima arrived, making her one of the longer-term survivors from the Wärter organization. She is sixteen years old and has a small physical stature, standing at 144 centimeters tall and weighing 42 kilograms, with light brown hair and green eyes. Her measurements are officially listed as 75-52-70 with an AAA cup size.

Meifon has a light and often jocular personality, frequently joking around, though she is capable of taking severe situations seriously when necessary. She speaks with an Osaka or Kansai dialect, which is sometimes adapted in translations as a humorous Southern American accent, an aspect that may explain her distinctive cowboy hat and boots. Some characters consider her reckless, likely due to her emotive and expressive persona, as she does not hide her喜怒哀乐 or feelings of joy and anger.

Her primary driving motivation is a deep love for money, and she is an entrepreneur who claims she would do anything for cash. Despite this intense greed, she is also shown to be generous to those in need. She lives a relatively comfortable life within the castle known as Feste, working as a bookie at the arena to earn money, but she also makes frequent visits to the countryside where she steals goods from the Feste warehouses to supply the inhabitants of Atelier Torino.

In the story, Meifon acts as an undercover gambler and something of a double agent, technically a resident of Veste while secretly supporting others. She is entrepreneurial and has a habit of setting up gambling pools whenever new abilities are brought to the island. Her schemes play a key role in specific episodes, such as when she arranges for Mirei to enter a beauty pageant at the Mermaid Festival hoping to profit from bets; after the pageant is rigged by others, Meifon fights to rectify the situation. She maintains working relationships with Hyouko Yundou and Futaba Kirii, sometimes collaborating with them on heists or other activities. Her interactions with main characters Mirei and Mamori include helping to facilitate Mirei's escape from confinement and displaying curiosity about their relationship.

Meifon is classified as an Extar, meaning she carries the A-Virus, but she possesses a unique ability that sets her apart from other characters. Unlike most Extars who require a Liberator partner to activate their transformation, Meifon does not need another person; instead, her Driving partner is money, which is an inanimate object. She loves money so intensely that it serves as her Liberator, allowing her to transform into an armed state called the Gold Money Armor. When she activates this Drive by using cash, she equips a set of golden armor that gives her high offensive power despite being quite fragile, a trait that makes her a glass cannon who focuses on attack rather than defense. In this armored form, she can generate forcefields and powerful electricity-based attacks. Her specific Drive Break technique is known as Lucky Trap, which involves generating electrical shockwaves to surround an opponent. However, the armor is easily damaged; when struck, the affected parts disappear entirely, revealing her nude body underneath. Once a battle concludes, the entire Gold Money Armor vanishes, leaving her completely naked except for a small tag labeled foreclosure covering her pelvic area. She is required to regain all the money spent each time she uses this ability. Meifon is noted as the first Extar shown to fight and use a Drive Break within the series.
