Description
Ole, whose full name is Oleander, is a supporting character in the animated film Lupin III: Dead or Alive. She is a secret agent of the nation of Zufu and an informer for the State Police, operating under the cover of a bartender. In this role, she gathers information and observes the people moving through her workplace, including Lupin III and the authorities investigating him.
Ole has short blonde hair and brown eyes. When assigned to impersonate Emerah, the woman believed to be the daughter of the country's ruler General Headhunter, she wears a long wig and a royal dress to complete the disguise. Her main weapon is a pistol, which she uses to hold adversaries at gunpoint, and her work as an informer requires her to be observant, resourceful, and able to function independently in dangerous situations.
Her motivations are shaped by her loyalty to Zufu and her personal feelings for Prince Panish, the royal heir who was reportedly killed during the general's takeover. Ole has a romantic history with Panish and still holds strong feelings for him. When she hears that the prince may still be alive, she is driven to search for him, and her hope for his return is tied to her desire for peace in the kingdom. These loyalties place her in opposition to Headhunter's regime.
In the story, Ole is introduced when Lupin and his companions believe they have kidnapped Emerah in order to obtain the key to the treasure hidden on the drifting island. In reality, Ole is the agent who took Emerah's place as a decoy, while the real Emerah is kept safe elsewhere by Fujiko Mine. When her true identity is exposed, Ole becomes a target of Headhunter and his right-hand man, Crisis, who want to eliminate her along with Lupin. As events unfold, she discovers that she has been used by Headhunter and is captured by Crisis. Lupin learns that the key to the island's defense system is a pendant worn around Ole's neck. Later, when Lupin appears disguised as Prince Panish, Ole believes she is reuniting with the prince and gives him the pendant, which allows the group to enter the island's hidden laboratory.
Ole's central relationship is with Prince Panish, whom she loved and believed to be dead. The prince she encounters during the film is actually Lupin in disguise, and she is unaware of the deception. Her interactions with Lupin lead her to become his friend, moving her from an operative working against him to an ally. Her relationship with Headhunter is one of manipulation, as he uses her without her knowledge, and her encounters with Crisis put her life in danger.
Over the course of the film, Ole develops from a dutiful undercover agent into someone who confronts the political betrayal surrounding her. Her belief in the prince's survival and her decision to hand over the key reflect her trust and her emotional investment in the royal family, while her experiences of being deceived and captured reveal her capacity to endure hardship. By the film's end, she has shifted from acting purely as a state agent to standing with Lupin and his companions against Headhunter.
Her notable abilities include her skill as an undercover operative, her convincing portrayal of Emerah, her use of a pistol in confrontations, and her competence as an informer in a politically unstable country.
