Description
Daigoro Kurigashira is a supporting character who appears in the second half of the Dr. Slump series. He is known for his distinctive physical appearance, defined by a very large head shaped like a chestnut, which is a direct reflection of his name. Daigoro typically dresses in a formal manner, wearing a green suit and a red tie, giving him the look of a conventional but slightly unusual teacher.

Daigoro moves to the quirky Penguin Village to work as a high school teacher, taking on the role of the homeroom teacher for a class that includes several of the series' main characters. His students include the powerful robot girl Arale Norimaki, as well as Akane Kimidori, Peasuke Soramame, and later Tsukutsun Tsun and Obotchaman. Even the angelic Gatchans and the genius infant Turbo occasionally accompany Arale to his class. As a teacher, Daigoro's primary motivation appears to be a sincere, if often futile, effort to maintain order and provide an education to his extraordinarily chaotic and superhuman students. His role in the story is that of a straight man and authority figure, constantly trying and failing to impose normalcy on the bizarre events of Penguin Village High School.

In his efforts to discipline his unruly pupils, Daigoro employs a signature technique known as the Headbutt of Love. This move is his primary tool for punishment, typically directed at students who are misbehaving, though its effectiveness against beings like Arale is understandably limited. Despite his stern demeanor, Daigoro is a resilient character who continues to show up for his job no matter the level of mayhem caused by his class.

Daigoro maintains key relationships primarily through his position as a teacher. He is the instructor for Arale and her friend group, placing him in a position of frustrated authority over some of the most powerful beings in the village. His relationship with his students is the central dynamic of his character, defined by his attempts to teach and their obliviousness or indifference to conventional schooling.

The character’s development is subtle; he largely serves as a consistent, recurring presence throughout the high school era of the series. He does not undergo significant personal transformation but remains a reliable fixture of Penguin Village life. One notable event involving Daigoro occurs when the class is informed that one student must transfer to Metropolis Island High School, leading to a rare moment where he successfully gets the students' attention, albeit temporarily.

Beyond his own series, Daigoro Kurigashira is one of the few Dr. Slump characters to make a physical appearance in Akira Toriyama's subsequent work, Dragon Ball. He can be spotted in the background among the citizens of Penguin Village during a crossover sequence when Goku visits the area. In the anime adaptation, Goku briefly asks Daigoro if he has seen the villain General Blue, receiving only a nod in response. He is also later seen as a spectator in the audience during the 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament, watching the match between Yamcha and Tien Shinhan.
