TV-Series
Description
Polly Buckets is a female police officer in the Penguin Village police force, first appearing alongside her colleagues when a bank robber takes refuge in the Soramame Barber Shop. She is consistently armed with an uzi-style submachine gun, and she is defined primarily by her eagerness to use it. In the original manga she has long blonde hair, while a later anime adaptation gives her red hair.
Her personality is marked by an extreme enthusiasm for firearms and a distinct lack of restraint. She is described as tough, unpredictable, and very trigger-happy, and she will eagerly open fire with any weapon available. Her dramatic behavior and impulsive nature frequently create more chaos than the situations she is meant to resolve, which makes her a recurring comedic presence in the series. A characteristic running gag is her repeated requests to fire into a building during the barber shop standoff; she even flirts with the police chief, Gyaosu, to persuade him to let her shoot, but he continually refuses.
Her primary motivation as a character is the desire to shoot criminals, and she approaches police work with a blunt philosophy that favors firepower over planning, as reflected in her remark about not needing strategy when bullets are available. She takes part in the village police force's attempts to deal with various incidents, though her contributions usually heighten the absurdity of the situation rather than resolve it effectively.
Her key relationships are within the police force, most notably with Chief Gyaosu, who serves as the authority figure reining in her destructive impulses. She also interacts with the citizens of Penguin Village, including Arale Norimaki and the other residents, whenever their troubles draw the attention of law enforcement. In a crossover appearance in another work, she joins the rest of the Penguin Village police in pursuing the villain General Blue, and the group instead encounters the UFO of King Nikochan and shoots it down, demonstrating that her gun-happy behavior extends beyond her home series.
The character undergoes little personal development, functioning instead as a stable running joke about an officer who is far more dangerous to public safety than the criminals she pursues. Her notable abilities are limited to her proficiency and enthusiasm for firearms, especially submachine guns, and her willingness to use them at any opportunity.
