Aeka Masaki Jurai is the first princess of the Jurai Imperial Family and a central figure in the Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki narrative. She is the daughter of Emperor Azusa and his second wife, Misaki. Her half-brother Yosho was also her former fiancé according to Juraian royal custom. When Yosho vanished centuries ago while pursuing the space pirate Ryoko, Aeka began a long search that led her to enter suspended animation for roughly seven hundred years, preserving her biological appearance in her late teens or early twenties. She eventually arrived on Earth after detecting Ryoko’s energy signature, and a confrontation destroyed her sentient royal treeship, Ryu-Oh, stranding her and her younger sister Sasami near Tenchi Masaki’s home.

Outwardly, Aeka embodies aristocratic refinement, formal manners, and a serene, dignified demeanor. She is deeply protective of Sasami and has a strong sense of royal duty. However, she harbors a deep-seated animosity toward Ryoko, whom she blames for Yosho’s disappearance and for an attack on the Jurai homeworld. This rivalry, intensified by their competition for Tenchi’s affection, frequently shatters her composure and reveals a loud, aggressive, and fiercely competitive nature. Despite this, she and Ryoko can set aside their differences when Tenchi or the group faces grave danger.

Aeka’s abilities stem from her Juraian royal heritage. She possesses superhuman strength, flight, energy projection, and telekinetic force fields capable of restraining powerful entities. She commands two autonomous guardians, Azaka and Kamidake. Her bond with the second-generation Royal Tree Ryu-Oh allows the ship to generate three Light Hawk Wings, a near-impregnable defensive energy that can also be used offensively. Although Ryu-Oh was destroyed during her journey, the goddess Tsunami later provided her with a seed to grow a new ship.

Her relationship with Tenchi begins when she discovers he is Yosho’s descendant and can wield the Jurai royal sword. Noticing similarities to Yosho, her feelings evolve into genuine romantic love. Yosho eventually releases her from their former betrothal and blesses her union with Tenchi, and later OVA installments show their relationship progressing to marriage and pregnancy. Aeka has also undergone genetic modification, changing her originally blue, curly hair to straight purple to resemble Funaho, Yosho’s mother and Azusa’s first wife, whom she idolized. She suppressed her natural tomboyish and passionate traits inherited from her mother Misaki, adopting Funaho’s calm elegance, though this suppression contributes to the volatility of her temper when provoked. Over time, she becomes more accustomed to life on Earth and more tolerant of the chaotic household she shares with her rivals and friends.
